TV: Helen Mirren Honored as Hasty Pudding Theatricals' Woman of the Year

The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the United States, honored Academy Award-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren as the recipient of its 2014 Woman of the Year Award on Thursday, January 30, 2014. The Pudding was proud to honor a talented and renowned actress whose performances have garnered international critical acclaim. Check out video highlights from the festivities below!

WNYC's ON THE MEDIA to Welcome Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen for 'Lunchtime Conversation', 2/18

Legendary best friends Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart always seem to be having a blast by the looks of their social media. From dressing up as a lobster to sitting on Santa's lap, the stars of blockbuster films Lord of the Rings and X-Men, know how to have a good time. On February 18 at noon, they join WNYC's On the Media host Brooke Gladstone for a lunchtime conversation about their newest projects including their two plays currently on Broadway, their epic friendship, and much more in The Greene Space at WNYC.

WAITING FOR GODOT's Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and More to Serve Free Hot Chocolate on Super Bowl Sunday

It's not every day you can get a free hot chocolate from a knight, but this Super Bowl Sunday, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Billy Crudup and Shuler Hensley will hand out free hot chocolate to ticket holders before the matinee of Waiting for Godot at the Cort Theatre on Sunday, February 2. To get the Super Bowl Sunday started early, the matinee will begin at 2pm, and to offer relief from the predicted cold temperatures, the four stars will be serving hot chocolate from 12:45pm to 1:15pm sharp. Sports fans will still have plenty of time to see the Super Bowl after the matinee.

STAGE TUBE: On This Day 1/28- MACBETH

Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre.

Dame Helen Mirren to Be Honored With BAFTA Fellowship

On Sunday, February 16th, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) will present Dame Helen Mirren with the Academy Fellowship at the EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House, London.

Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Machinal, starring Rebecca Hall, written by Sophie Treadwell and directed by Lyndsey Turner, began previews on December 20 and opened on January 16, 2014 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway. Ian McKellen to Lend Voice to Olney Theatre Center's HOW TO SUCCEEED

Olney Theatre Center proudly announces the return of legendary star of stage and screen Sir Ian McKellen, making his musical comedy debut in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as the "Book Voice", narrating the action in the Tony-winning musical. Former Artistic Director Jim Petosa, who produced McKellen's first appearance at Olney, has signed on to voice the show's "TV Announcer". How to Succeed is known for having voiceover parts often recorded by recognizable voices including broadcast journalists Walter Cronkite (1995 Broadway revival) and Anderson Cooper (2011 Broadway revival).

Today in 1957 Waiting for Godot opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, where it ran for 6 performances. An absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, it revolves around two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, who wait endlessly and in vain for someone named Godot to arrive. Godot's absence, as well as numerous other aspects of the play, have led to many different interpretations since the play's premiere. Since its US premiere in 1956, several notable revivals have been produced, including the 1988 production featuring Robin Williams and Steve Martin, and the 2009 revival starring Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin.
