Fast-rising Australian band Big Words have released their stunning new single “Summer Never Felt This Sad” from their anticipated upcoming debut album Nightmares of a Stardom Dream. I have always loved writing and used to want to pursue a career as an author. As I grew up and became more busy, I lost more and more time practicing writing and only practiced writing in the form of poetry every now and then. Upon starting the playwriting class last semester, my inspiration was relit and I began writing more than I had in months.

Co-produced by long-time collaborator Maxim Nucci/Yodelice, with the participation of Metronomy founder Joseph Mount and renowned French DJ and producer Gesaffelstein, the international pop and folk album chronicles all the stages one goes through when making a fresh start: fear, excitement, innocence, doubts, letting go and epiphany.

I got to throw out some questions to Jen, who’s playing the titular role of Boudica. And she punched back her answers directly on target.

Puccini is one of Michelle Bradley’s favorite composers, and she’s in San Diego to sing his Tosca for the San Diego Opera company. We were originally scheduled to talk in person, but a rehearsal change meant Zoom was going to work better for an hour discussion. “I'm happy to be back, and I know that everyone's happy to have me back because I've been treated warmly as always. They check up on me making sure I'm okay, and Southern California feels like a working vacation. After rehearsal I can have a nice walk any time of day. The ocean’s close, the mountains, beautiful views. I've made some great friends, and it’s a wonderful relationship to have. They seem to think I’m a star.”
