Erich Kunzel, the founder and conductor emeritus of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, has died of cancer. He was 74 years old.

The Tennessee Valley's best value in music entertainment returns this September as Huntsville's Big Spring Jam Music Festival marks its 17th anniversary. The event is scheduled for September 25th - 27th at Big Spring International Park in downtown Huntsville. Organizers have confirmed the first wave of performers among more than 45 musical acts scheduled to perform at Big Spring Jam XVII.

terraNOVA Collective is set to host an evening to benfit terraNOVA Collective Thursday, April 2 at DR2 Theatre and D-Lounge 103 East 15th Street. This extra special evening will begin with a Welcome Reception at 7pm in the DR2 Lobby with chocolate and desserts from some of New York?s finest bakeries including Magnolia Bakery & Tonnie?s. The Mainstage Performance will begin at 8pm in the DR2 Theatre. Performances will include Roger Bonair-Agard (HBO's Def Poetry Jam) and previews from the upcoming 2009 soloNOVA Arts Festival, including: Preston Martin (Fun Design with Svelte) and magician Jeff Grow (Creating Illusion). Concluding the performances, packages will be up for sale including tickets to some of the hottest Broadway shows as well as NY & NJ sporting events.

The McDaniel College Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa presents 'Fugues for Multi-Species Living,' a lecture by Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Anna Tsing, at 8 p.m. March 5 on campus in McDaniel Lounge. The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call (410) 857-2294. Tsing's research on a high-value wild mushroom called matsutake explores a fundamental question, 'How can humans live well with other species?' Her lecture ushers audiences into a world where species live not just for themselves but also in relation to each other. 'In Japan, matsutake live with red pines and red pines, in turn, thrive with human disturbance,' Tsing says. 'This lecture offers a tour through Japanese village forests to listen to the histories co-existing species might tell.'
