Signature Theatre continues its commitment to presenting bold new contemporary plays with the DC area premiere of Sex with Strangers by Laura Eason. After its New York premiere at Second Stage Theatre this summer, Signature is proud to introduce this play to DC audiences. Running now through December 7, Sex with Strangers will be presented in Signature's intimate 110-seat ARK Theatre. Directed by Aaron Posner (Signature's The Last Five Years, Woolly Mammoth's Stupid F***ing Bird), the production stars Holly Twyford (Signature's The Little Dog Laughed) as Olivia and Luigi Sottile (Steppenwolf's Buena Vista) as Ethan. As embodied by the engaging Robert Michael Oliver-heavily bearded for the occasion-Sanctuary Theatre revives Whitman in all his messy glory, bringing us his passion, sensuality, sensitivity and eroticism. It's hard to imagine a guy who looks like Santa Clause relishing the kinds of behavior that (until recently) could get you arrested in most states. But he was dangerous in his own day, and as Oliver reminds us so richly here, he will remain a scandalous figure on the American scene for as long as there is an America.

On July 1, 2014, single tickets go on sale for Signature Theatre's 25th Anniversary Season. The 2014/15 season will bring three new musicals to life in world premieres including the world premiere of the Sheryl Crow and Barry Levinson penned musical adaptation of the 1982 movie Diner; Kid Victory by John Kander (Chicago, Cabaret) and Greg Pierce; and Soon by Nick Blaemire. The season begins with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Sunday in the Park with George; and continues with the musical version of Sinclair Lewis's best-selling novel Elmer Gantry; the DC area premiere of Sex with Strangers by Laura Eason; a world premiere concert event Simply Sondheim celebrating the work of Stephen Sondheim; and Kander & Ebb's classic musical Cabaret. Tickets to all of these events as well as Signature's Cabaret and Holiday Follies concerts go on sale to the public July 1 at 10AM.

Shakespeare's Globe to Bring HAMLET, KING LEAR to Folger Theatre's 2014-15 Season; Lineup Announced!

Folger Theatre Artistic Producer Janet Alexander Griffin today announced the 2014/15 season. With six full Shakespeare productions on stage at the Folger to celebrate the Bard's 450th, Folger Theatre will start the upcoming season with two special, limited engagements by London's Shakespeare's Globe. First, the acclaimed staging of Hamlet, seen at the Folger in 2012, returns in late July for just three performances as part of their Globe to Globe Hamlet, the ambitious two-year tour bringing the Danish prince to every country in the world. Then, once again in a September residency, Shakespeare's Globe will perform King Lear for eighteen shows. Joseph Marcell (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jacques in Folger Theatre's 2007 As You Like It) plays the title role.

Factory 449: a theatre collective presents the DC premiere of THE AMISH PROJECT by Jessica Dickey (Row After Row, Charles Ives Take Me Home). Directed by Helen Hayes Award winner Holly Twyford and featuring Helen Hayes Award winner and Factory 449 Company Member Nanna Ingvarsson,THE AMISH PROJECT performs April 17 to May 11 at Anacostia Arts Center (1742 Good Hope Road, SE). Performances are Thursday - Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm. Tickets for all performances are $20.

Second Annual Summer Hummer Poised to Break Records, 8/19

The all-star Summer Hummer burlesque returns for a second triumphant year, with direction by Eric Schaeffer and performances by the best - and bawdiest - talent that Washington stages have to offer. Last year the event raised more than $16,000 for the Taking Care of Our Ownemergency fund, which provides short-term assistance to Washington-area theatre artists in unexpected need. Building on that success, this year's production features an added performance and an astounding line-up of top performers from Washington and Broadway.
