The talented five-member cast, directed by Alan Shearman, certainly must be commended on their commitment and enthusiasm as they interact with the audience as second-rate circus artists and plow through their intentionally bad vaudeville routines. Just as a clown must know the correct techniques to pratfall or look ridiculous, best acts hit their intended, targeted reactions of laughter and applause when the audience's allowed to realize the good, solid techniques behind these really bad circus feats.
Veteran Bay Area actor Soren Oliver has seen - and played in - countless productions of Shakespeare, including numerous versions of what is arguably the most popular of the Bard's comedies, 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' Midsummer has every device in Shakespeare's bag of tricks, many of which he filched from Greek comedy. Soren Oliver has created a follow-up play that highlights the best of complex plotting, mixed-up lovers and mind-bending shtick, and peopled it with a cast of experienced Shakespearean actors and a director who really love and understand farce.

The Producers will open the 2015-16 season August 21, 2015 and run untilSeptember 13, 2015 on the Lohrey Stage at Theatre Memphis. This Tony Award winner for Best Musical features two get-rich-quick theatrical producers who scheme and oversell interests in a Broadway show they plan on being a flop. The show unexpectedly becomes a hit and hilarity ensues along the way. Based on the Mel Brooks' film of the same name, the over-the-top satire, irreverence and in-your-face comedy make it a show to remember.
Three summers ago, Company One Theatre converted the Roberts Studio Theatre into an authentic wrestling arena for its acclaimed production of The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Kristoffer Diaz's satire of the faux violence and bright lights of the show biz world of professional wrestling. C1's season 16 concludes with the very real brutality of college football simulated on an astroturf stage in Colossal, a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere by Andrew Hinderaker. Accompanied by the sights and sounds of an actual game, the audience is immersed in a 'Friday Night Lights' experience of pounding drumbeats, crunching body contact, and crushing emotional sequences. Blending the physicality of the sport with the artistry of dance blurs the line between the two seemingly disparate activities, resulting in a compelling approach to telling a powerful story.
