Geri Allen, Terri Lyne Carrington and Esperanza Spalding Join Forces at Segerstrom Center This Weekend

Three of today's leading ladies of jazz, Geri Allen (piano), Terri Lyne Carrington (drums) and Esperanza Spalding (bass), also known as the trio ACS, will take to the stage at Segerstrom Center for the Arts today and tomorrow, October 25 and 26 for four performances in Samueli Theater. Having formed during their work together on Carrington's Grammy Award-winning album The Mosaic Project, the innovative ensemble is now touring and taking jazz to new and exciting heights. In response to their debut at New York's legendary Village Vanguard, The Village Voice remarked, 'the set's expressionistic push-pull turned out to be a show of jazz fealty as disorienting as it was riveting.'

Performing the music of Machito, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and others-while including those rich traditions within their own contemporary arrangements-Pacific Mambo Orchestra is led by Marlow Rosado, who won a 2013 Grammy for his album Retro. Joining on percussion is Tito Puente, Jr, who is determined to nurture the musical legacy left by his father.

Harris Center at Folsom Lake College welcomes the legendary Peter Nero to Stage One for two separate programs over two nights with bassist Michael Barnett. Hailed as one of the premier interpreters of Gershwin, will perform The Gershwin Project, and Classic Connections, an evening dedicated to showing how jazz and classical standards are more closely related than people might think.

The New York Philharmonic in collaboration with CAMI Music will celebrate the Chinese New Year for the third consecutive year, welcoming the Year of the Horse with a concert featuring major works of both the Chinese and Western canon on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. The event celebrates the cultural heritage of China and America and honors the Chinese- American community. Long Yu — artistic director and chief conductor of the China Philharmonic, music director of the Shanghai and Guanzhou Symphony Orchestras, and artistic director of the Beijing Music Festival — will return to the Philharmonic to conduct the concert.
