An accomplished, world renowned jazz vocalist with a clear affinity for musical theater, Jane Monheit is set to appear in Costa Mesa on October 5 for a one-night-only concert alongside fellow jazz star John Pizzarelli as part of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts' 2012-2013 Cabaret series. Recently, the two-time Grammy nominated songstress chatted with BroadwayWorld's Michael Lawrence Quintos about her upcoming OC return engagement and why she's so in love with showtunes.

Leaving the audience awe-struck with surprise and delight at his sheer virtuosity two seasons ago when he filled in at the last-minute for Yuja Wang, Chinese-American pianist Conrad Tao, now 18, returns to Pacific Symphony to play Grieg's impassioned and demanding Piano Concerto. Already toting an impressive career as an international soloist, Tao is also an award-winning violinist, accomplished composer and scholar, currently attending the Columbia University/Julliard School joint degree program.

It is sure to be a bittersweet moment when Maxim Eshkenazy-Pacific Symphony's much-loved assistant conductor for the last four seasons-steps down at the end of 2012-13, passing the baton to new Assistant Conductor Alejandro Gutierrez. But luckily, it's going to be a long goodbye for the very popular Eshkenazy, who continues with the Symphony, sharing duties with Gutierrez throughout the coming season.

Pacific Symphony's "Festa di Firenze," is described as 'a lavish Opening Night celebration of Italian delights and dazzling piano virtuosity' as the orchestra launches the 2012-13 Hal and Jeannette Segerstrom Family Foundation Classical series with "Andre Watts Plays Brahms." Hosted by the Symphony's board of directors and co-chaired by Ruth Ann and John Evans (the same couple who made last year's Opening Night such a success), the black-tie affair takes place Thursday, Sept. 20, with proceeds benefiting the Symphony's artistic and education programs.

Known for three of the world's biggest gaming franchises ("Warcraft," "Starcraft" and "Diablo") played by millions of people, Blizzard selected the Symphony to perform the soundtrack for one of the most anticipated video games of the past five years. More than 100 Symphony musicians came together last July in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, where the score was performed under the baton of Eimear Noone and recorded live by Blizzard for "Diablo III."
