To celebrate the 50th anniversary of "The Sound of Music" the von Trapp Family returned to one of the birthplaces of the beloved movie: the immortal songs and melodies brought the breathtaking scenery of the "Felsenreitschule" alive with the Sound of Music. For one evening Salzburg Tourism in cooperation with the Salzburg State Theatre celebrated the global phenomena that is "The Sound of Music" with a grand gala.
On March 2nd 1965, RCA released the soundtrack to 20th Century Fox's THE SOUND OF MUSIC, which made its debut on the Billboard album chart just eighteen days later, eventually reaching the No. 1 spot on Nov. 13, 1965.
The ABC Television Network will air "The Sound of Music," the Rodgers & Hammerstein cinematic treasure, on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21 (7:00-11:00 p.m., ET/PT).
According to the Daily Mail, Maria Agatha Franziska Gobertina von Trapp, the real-life, second-oldest daughter of Georg Ludwig von Trapp and Agatha Whitehead von Trapp, has passed away. She was the last member of the von Trapp Family Singers, who inspired the musical and film versions of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. She was 99.

Last night, April 24, Carnegie Hall presented its gala benefit performance of The Sound of Music in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. The cast was led by Laura Osnes (Maria Rainer), Tony Goldwyn (Captain von Trapp), Brooke Shields (Elsa Schraeder), Patrick Page (Max Detweiler), Stephanie Blythe (The Mother Abbess), Mary Michael Patterson (Liesl von Trapp), Nick Spangler (Rolf Gruber), Cotter Smith (Herr Zeller), and Reed Birney (Admiral von Schreiber). They were joined by and Joel Hatch (Franz, The Butler), Joy Hermalyn (Sister Berthe), Linda Mugleston (Sister Margaretta), Faith Sherman (Sister Sophia), and Veanne Cox (Frau Schmidt).
