These good looking gentlemen with their operatic voices definitely have that certain 'something' that appeals to a wide range of people. And, judging by the response of the crowd at the Fox Theatre (July 10, 2009), they're likely to be around for a while.
Hold on! She returns to open the fabulous Summer Season in her 6th engagement in The Royal Room at The Colony. Cabaret icon and 2009 Nightlife Award winner Baby Jane Dexter brings with her critically acclaimed show, IF... (what might have been...what could have been...what is!) to The Royal Room at The Colony beginning May 22 through May 30. The schedule is as follows: May 22-23 (Fri-Sat) and May 29-30 (Fri-Sat). All shows are at 8:00 PM.
This month the Metropolitan Room welcomes back two great singers with vastly different styles and personas - the garrulous blues mamma Baby Jane Dexter, who reprises 'If' by popular demand for nine shows from April 16 to May 2, and the cosmopolitan chanteuse Anna Bergman, who brings her Richard Rodgers tribute show, 'My Heart Stood Still,' for four shows spanning two weeks, from April 18 to April 29.
The British singing sensation Barb Jungr, who just earned Time Out NY's Best of the Year honors for her two Metropolitan Room shows in 2008, is moving uptown to the Caf? Carlyle at the Carlyle Hotel where she premieres a brand new act from March 11 to 28. In 'The Men I Love' Jungr promises to reach beyond our common assumptions about the male species to appreciate the surprises of men and manhood while marveling at the astonishing topographic variety of what she calls 'the male terrain.'
The composers and songwriters she's drawing her inspiration from are a diverse lot. She and her New York music director Charlie Giordano are constructing a show with songs by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Iggy Pop, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and Harry Nilsson among others. All the songs in the show Jungr has not heretofore performed in New York. Playing for three weeks 'The Men I Love' is Ms. Jungr's fifth New York engagement since debuting at the Metropolitan Room in January 2007. It's here that she has emerged as one of this town's most original and forceful singer-entertainers.
In his New York Times assessment of Jungr's artistry at the time, Stephen Holden said, 'She is a gregarious stage personality with a comic streak in the tradition of the English music hall (...) She is a wonderful comic storyteller too. A typical show is a series of emotional hairpin turns with spontaneous patter that can break you up laughing. In the next moment you may find yourself choking back tears.' He also calls her 'a complete entertainer.'

A wave of cocktail culture from the West Coast is about to pour through the Metropolitan Room's doors as Terese Genecco, Russ Lorenson and Corky Hale come to town, while Baby Jane Dexter and a number of other local notables like Klea Blackhurst and Billy Stritch stand up for the Eastern seaboard.
