Broadway's N'Kenge Tapped for Reading of New Musical DOROTHY

Helen Hayes nominee N'Kenge (Motown: The Musical, Sondheim and Sondheim) will play the title role of a presentation of a new musical DOROTHY, produced by Richard Bell (Bubbling Brown Sugar) with book, music & lyrics by award-winning playwright/composer Robert Mitchell (Vincent, Frankenstein), featuring musical direction by Josh Kight. The presentation will be held tomorrow, June 9th, 2017 at 11:00AM at the private club The Players for industry guests.

Hiball Events and the Palmer House Hilton present this special evening that will revisit the glitz and glamor of the historic Empire Room. Spend the evening with vocalists Sam Fazio and Kimberly Gordon, along with a 6-piece band, to hear the music made famous by performers of the room like Bobby Darin, Pearl Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole. Celebrities and other luminaries will converge on Gotham Hall in Manhattan as award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright and acclaimed artist Carrie Mae Weems are honored by The Brotherhood/Sister Sol (Bro/Sis), a nationally recognized, Harlem-based nonprofit and youth development organization, as it heads into its 22nd year transforming young lives. Other notables attending the organization's 13th annual VOICES benefit include actors Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Michael K. Williams, the Honorable David N. Dinkins, 106th mayor of New York, the Honorable Cyrus Vance, New York County district attorney, film and television producers Terence and Rachel Winter, New York Times columnist Charles Blow and DJ Beverly Bond, founder and executive director of Black Girls Rock! The event, which takes place on Thursday, May 11, at Gotham Hall in Manhattan, is expected to draw 500 supporters.

The Harlem Stage dance series, E-Moves promises to present a broad spectrum of choreographers of color who work across the spectrum of contemporary idioms. This year the acclaimed dance series has commissioned new works from two established and two emerging choreographers. Under the curatorship of Charmaine Warren, the E-Moves 18 lineup includes four artists with work that intersects the questions and impact of the world around them. Francesca Harper who continues to seek answers for life's challenges; Parijat Desai whose work is realized through her unique blend of contemporary dance and Indian forms; Kyle Marshall who quietly investigates black culture through dance; and Leyland Simmons who makes ballets that break from the classical mold.
