Set in the South in the depths of the Great Depression, Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning story contrasts the idyllic innocence of childhood with powerful themes of racial prejudice and injustice. When lawyer Atticus Finch defends a man falsely accused of a crime, the reverberations rumble through the entire town of Maycomb, exposing intolerance and quiet heroism alike.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD on Trial at A.D. Players' New Galleria-Area Theater

A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theater companies, has moved its troupe from the Grace Theater to its new 440-seat venue, the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater (George Theater). The Players completed its 39-year run at the 212-seat Grace Theater in December. To Kill a Mockingbird will be the first show performed at the new $18 million George Theater, just in time for the A.D. Players' 50th anniversary season. The American classic, dramatized by Christopher Sergel, runs February 12 - March 5, and is the first of six notable plays coming to the George Theater in 2017.

University of Kentucky Presents THAT INSPIRED HARPER LEE

Long before Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys took center stage in the hearts of young readers as the iconic teen detectives, Seckatary Hawkins and his gang of "Fair and Square" boys were solving mysteries and stopping crimes along the riverbanks of the Ohio River. Beginning in 1918, the members of the Fair and Square Club captured the imagination of thousands of children and adults alike, as they explore the diverse Kentucky landscape in pursuit of adventure, mystery, and doing good. For over three decades, Schulkers' creation provided inspiration to many young readers, including Harper Lee, who references his work in her iconic novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
