As a native New Yorker who was fortunate enough to go to Broadway shows since the age of five, I can now wholeheartedly and unreservedly say that Las Vegas is, indeed, the 'Entertainment Capital of the World.' And the reason for that is, in three simple words, 'The Smith Center. '

EVITA, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1978 master class musical, has enjoyed runs internationally, two on Broadway and two in London, with a third on the way at the Dominion Theatre. But the process of bringing it to the stage, which Rice and original West End star Elaine Page detail in a new series of essays with The Guardian, was challenging, invigorating, and began on a 'late night in 1973.'

This weekend, September 5, 6 and 7, the multi-talented singer, actor and comedian Jason Alexander will make his Houston Symphony debut with An Evening of Comedy & Song, led by Principal POPS Conductor Michael Krajewski.

Neglected Musicals will present It's a Bird It's a Plane It's Superman, on Hayes Theatre Co on Monday, 6 October. Directed by Stuart Maunder this 1966 Broadway Musical is the classic battle between good and evil by one of the comic world's most renowned superhero's, Superman.

Staged! and Tony Award-winning Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown go way back. For the past three years the company has been delighting musical theatre audiences with top-notch production of the composer's work and has the awards and accolades to show for it. This time, Staged! presents JRB's dark and ambitious musical Parade, September 20 through October 12. A dark and compelling look at American justice and racism, Parade won two Tony Awards for its sweeping score and powerful message.

Broadway veteran Mitzi Hamilton, one of the dancers in Michael Bennett's original developmental workshop that provided the inspiration for the character of Val in A Chorus Line, will direct and choreograph the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical at Surflight Theatre, tonight, August 27-September 14.

The company of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is the latest Broadway ensemble to take part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which they accepted from the cast of LES MISERABLES. The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) has announced fall programming at OBERON, featuring limited engagements of exciting work by groundbreaking artists. The lineup for October and November includes POOL (NO WATER) by Mark Ravenhill, created by One Year Lease Theater Company and directed by Ianthe Demos; SHIDA, a new musical in development, written and performed by Broadway powerhouse Jeannette Bayardelle and directed by Andy Sandberg; and RUBY WAX: SANE NEW WORLD, written and performed by the incomparable comedienne and actor Ruby Wax.

This concert is made possible in part through the support of Cynthia Woods Mitchell POPS at Jones Hall and BBVA Compass.
