La Jolla Playhouse is pleased to bring back for a sixth year its acclaimed new play development initiative, the DNA New Work Series, a weekend of readings of new works, taking place March 22 - 25, 2018 in the Playhouse's Rao and Padma Makeneni Play Development Center. La Jolla Playhouse Announces 2018 POP Tour For Young Audiences

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its 2018 Performance Outreach Program (POP) Tour production, Home of the Brave, by Lee Cataluna, directed by Honolulu Theatre for Youth Artistic Director Eric Johnson (2014 POP Tour, Suzette Who Set to Sea). The production will tour schools throughout San Diego County January 29 March 30, 2018. Co-commissioned by the Playhouse and Honolulu Theatre for Youth, this world-premiere play for young audiences will also have four public performances on March 10 & 11, 2018 at 1:00pm and 3:00pm in the Playhouse's Rao and Padma Makineni Play Development Center.

Most of all, perhaps, is the sense of the theater as a helter-skelter, seat-of-the-pants, totally precarious enterprise, in which people start out to cast or produce a show with no idea how it's going to be completed, without necessarily even a script, and in which the way to make the final product viable, let alone successful, is, as the script keeps saying, a mystery.
