Thoroughly Modern Millie is a high-spirited musical romp taking place in New York City in 1922, telling the story of young Millie Dillmount who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever.
Music Box Theatre to Present National Theatre Live's THIS HOUSE, 6/15 & 25

The Music Box Theatre continues its partnership with the UK's National Theatre Live - produced by Northwestern alum David Sabel - to exhibit live stage performances beamed to Chicago from the prestigious National Theatre in London. This month: a backbiting drama between Britain's political partiesin a captured performance of This House, recorded during the first of its two sold-out runs at the National Theatre of Great Britain. In this witty and comical recreation of turbulent British politics in the 1970s, the realities of the British Parliamentary System unfold in the engine rooms of Westminster as rules are bent and votes are won or lost by one. This House , written by James Graham and directed by Jeremy Herrin, bows Saturday June 15, Noon, and Tuesday June 25, 7:30 pm at Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue. In this hung parliament, the ruling party holds on by a thread. Votes are won and lost by one, fist fights erupt in the bars, and ill MPs (Members of Parliament) are hauled in to cast their votes.

Amphibian Announces National Theatre Live Screenings

Amphibian Stage Productions today announced additional National Theatre Live screenings for 2013, presented in association with the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Productions of The Audience, starring Helen Mirren, and Othello, broadcast from London, will follow the previously announced screenings of This House in the fourth season of this critically acclaimed series.

Forthcoming productions at the National Theatre, announced today by Nicholas Hytner, include plays familiar, rare and new: Shakespeare's Othello, Gorky's Children of the Sun,James Baldwin's The Amen Corner;Marlowe's Edward II, Pirandello's Liola, Eugene O'Neill's Strange Interlude and Georg Kaiser's From Morning to Midnight. Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson's musical The Light Princess will premiere in October, and there will be a new adaptation of Emil and the Detectives for family audiences at Christmas.

Oscar Wilde's satirical comedy A Woman of No Importance was first performed in 1893, but Paul Hardy, who directs this production for Alumnae Theatre Company, decided to transpose it to the mid 1980s. That being the era of Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and 'power dressing', it highlights the fact that for all our progress, the 1% still control the 99%, and women are still subject to more social scrutiny and censure than men.

The National Theatre of Great Britain's fourth season of National Theatre Live, the ground-breaking initiative to broadcast live performances from the National's stages to cinemas worldwide, will continue in 2013 with Arthur Wing Pinero's The Magistrate on January 17, Alan Bennett's People on March 21 and James Graham's This House on May 16. Since its first season, which began in June 2009 with the acclaimed production of Phedre starring Helen Mirren, over one million people have now experienced the National's work on movie screens worldwide.

The Evening Standard Theatre Awards, established in 1955, are presented annually for outstanding achievements in London Theatre, and this year's nominations longlist has just been announced. Sponsored by the Evening Standard newspaper, this year's shortlist will be announced on November 12 and the winners revealed on November 25.
