Mabou Mines To Premiere FAUST 2.0 In Newly Renovated East Village Home

Mabou Mines, the world-renowned experimental theater company that celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020,will stage the world premiere of Faust 2.0, March 27 April 14, 2019, in the company's newly renovated home at 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue). Adapted by Matthew Maguire, directed by Mabou Mines' Producing Artistic Director Sharon Ann Fogarty, and developed by Mabou Mines over the course of five years, the production is a timely multimedia reimagining of Goethe's Faust, Part II that follows Faust's search for ultimate power on the global stage.

SF International Arts Festival Confirms Chapel Venue

The San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) can finally confirm the schedule for the Chapel venue for this year's Festival program at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC).

Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theater Presents JOHANNES DOKCHTOR FAUST

From March 21 to April 7, Theater for the New City, 155 First Ave., will present Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre (CAMT) in an update of its perennially popular 'Johannes Dokchtor Faust, a Petrifying Puppet Comedye,' translated and directed by Vit Horejs. This classic of the Czech marionette repertoire is traditionally used to make fun of a king or a local mayor.  The company's adaptation was initially developed in 1990 and its topical references are being updated to the current topsy-turvy political climate.

Red Bull Theater Presents One-Night-Only Reading Of Schiller's DON CARLOS

Red Bull Theater today announced the cast for the next REVELATION READING, Mike Poulton's (Fortune's Fool, Wolf Hall) Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller, directed by Mr. Berger: Ron Canada, Helen Cespedes, Celeste Ciulla, Kelley Curran, Sanjit De Silva, Ezra Knight, Sam Lilja, Ismenia Mendes, Patrick Page, Rod Singleton, and Paxton Whitehead.  This will take place on Monday February 25 at 7:30pm at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets).

Off-Broadway's FRANKENSTEIN Musical Adds Matinee Performance

Producer John Lant, Write Act Repertory and Tamra Pica have announced that FRANKENSTEIN, playing Off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theatre on Mondays at 7 PM, has added another Friday matinee at 11 AM; on Feb. 15, March 22 and now April 12, to accommodate school trips; It is an open run, with tickets now on sale through April. Group/student discounts are available.

NYU Skirball Presents the North American Premiere FIVE EASY PIECES

NYU Skirball will present the North American premiere of Milo Rau's & CAMPO's Five Easy Pieces, running March 7 - March 9, 2019 at NYU Skirball. Five Easy Pieces presents the story of the notorious child killer Marc Dutroux, whose 2004 trial caused a national scandal in Belgium.  Dutroux's story is told by seven children between the ages of 8 - 14 who take on the roles of several protagonists involved with the case. It will be presented in Flemish, with English supertitles.    

Theater J To Debut THE JEWISH QUEEN LEAR

Theater J completes its four-show 2018-2019 season Around Town with the English language premiere of the Yiddish theater classic The Jewish Queen Lear, a translation of Jacob Gordin's Mirele Efros. The Jewish Queen Lear runs at Georgetown University's Davis Performing Arts Center in the Gonda Theatre March 13 - April 7. The press is invited to Opening Night of The Jewish Queen Lear on Monday, March 18 at 7:30 PM.

San Francisco International Arts Festival Publishes Schedule of Performances for THE PATH TO DEMOCRACY

The San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) is pleased to reveal the full schedule of performances for the 2019 Festival that will run from May 23 - June 2 and have as a central theme The Path to Democracy. As the dark clouds of nationalism and fascism re-assert themselves on the global stage, SFIAF looks at some of the struggles for democracy past and present and how they manifest themselves in different cultures. The Festival will take place at, and in partnership with, the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture.

BWW Review: Upstream Hosts A Merry Debate in WITTENBERG

The Upstream Theater has opened a lovely production of Wittenberg, by David Davalos. It is a 'tragical-comical-historical play', a genre first mentioned by Polonius and rarely seen thereafter. (I guess Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead would fill the bill.) Here in Wittenberg we meet two great figures, Martin Luther and Dr. John Faustus, both professors at the University. Attending their lectures is an ardent young Danish student, Hamlet.
