A new initiative focused on raising awareness for school music funding titled 'Rise Up Project' (www.riseupproject.org) has united the Chandler, Arizona school Bright Beginnings with the Los Angeles-based Cavalier Artist Group to produce a performance DVD and CD.
Rapper Snoop Lion, who has been one of the most outspoken proponents of ending gun violence, has joined with singer Tony Bennett to support VOICES AGAINST VIOLENCE, a campaign launched last month by Bennett, his son and manager Danny Bennett and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The campaign supports common sense gun laws and calls for ending the gun violence that takes thousands of innocent lives each year in communities across America.
As part of their "In Performance at
the White House" series, the President and First Lady will host a
concert in the East Room honoring singer-songwriter Carole King, who
will be awarded the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for
Popular Song. President Obama will present the award as he did when
the Library of Congress honored Stevie Wonder (2009), Sir Paul
McCartney (2010), and the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal
David (2012). The program will include performances by King, as well
as Gloria Estefan, Billy Joel, Jesse McCartney, Emeli Sande, James
Taylor and Trisha Yearwood.
Latin GRAMMY winner Miguel Bosé has been named the 2013 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year it was announced today by The Latin Recording Academy. Chosen for his philanthropic and professional accomplishments, Bosé will receive the honor at a star-studded concert and tribute gala on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The celebration will feature many songs from Bose's catalog performed by an impressive array of notable artists and friends. A portion of the net proceeds from the gala will benefit The Latin Recording Academy's outreach and education programs. The prestigious event will precede the 14th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. Today, the Nederlander Organization and Estefan Enterprises jointly announce they have engaged in the process of developing and producing a new Broadway show inspired by the music made famous by International superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband musician/producer and entrepreneur Emilio Estefan. The musical will be set in a way that tells the Estefans' riveting life story detailing their journey all the way from Cuba to superstardom. Today at the Television Critics Association meeting, PBS announced actor Benjamin Bratt will narrate LATINO AMERICANS, a landmark three-part, six-hour documentary series that is set to air nationally on PBS in the fall of 2013. It is the first major documentary series for television to chronicle the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape the United States over the last 500-plus years and have become, with more than 50 million people, the largest minority group in the U.S.
According to the Associated Press, The Kennedy Center's process for selecting the Kennedy Center Honors is under review after the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts said in September that Latinos have long been excluded.

Mexican superstar Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash in Mexico on Sunday, according to Eonline.com. The singer was reported missing earlier in the day after her plane reportedly lost contact with air traffic controllers just minutes after taking off from an airport in Monterrey.
