The critically acclaimed rock musical, Rent, rocks the Pollard Theatre stage in October! Loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's opera, La Bohème, Rent is a fantastic journey through love, art and life. You'll be transported to New York City's Lower East Side in the days of the thriving Bohemian East Village. Struggling to survive and create, we find a group of poor young artists living in the shadow of AIDS. Rent gained critical acclaim on Broadway and won a Tony Award for Best Musical. A worthy story told many times, Rent will rock its way into hearts and minds.

Renowned Swedish-American soprano Erika Sunward will make her Tennessee debut in the role of Floria Tosca when Nashville Opera presents the first production of the 2009-10 season, Giacomo Puccini's Tosca.

Nashville Opera opens the 2009-10 season with a grand production of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall on Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 10 at 8:00 pm.

From the first strains of the music, so beautifully played by members of the Nashville Symphony, under the baton of conductor Steven White (himself the artistic director of Opera Roanoke and a frequent collaborator with Nashville Opera artists) to the final, dramatic scene in which Tosca falls to her death after the execution of her lover, Tosca is a feast for both the eyes and ears. Creatively designed, utilizing the scenery from the Virginia Opera mounting of the work and sumptuous costuming from Baltimore's AT Jones & Sons, it has all the impressive trappings of grand opera. Yet John Hoomes' thoughtful direction results in something that is far more relatable-and certainly more accessible-than one might imagine.

9 Works Theatrical is set to rock the Philippines with a new production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical come February 2010. Theater stalwart Robbie Guevara will helm the project. RENT Manila is currently looking for male and female talents (with or without musical theater background) who can sing, dance, and act.

Building on a series of firsts, the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music will continue to break ground with in-repertory productions of La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini and RENT by Jonathan Larson in February 2011. Larson based RENT on the story of La Boheme and used a number of melodic themes from the opera for his musical.

Viva La Vie Boheme in a dynamic production of RENT at The Ringwald Theatre! Who Wants Cake? is thrilled to open their 2009/2010 season with the smash hit musical, RENT created by Jonathan Larson. Beginning Friday, August 21st and playing for a six week engagement ending on Monday, September 28th, RENT will play Friday, Saturday, and Monday nights at 8PM with Sunday matinees at 3PM.
