National Jazz Museum Host Free Events May 18 & 20

The National Jazz Museum in Harlem will host two free events May 18 and 20 at the Visitors Center (104 East 126th Street, Stuite 2C). Special Guest New Orleans poet/performer Chuck Perkins will participate on Tuesday, May 18 for Jazz for Curious Listeners Tuning in to Treme: Hymns, Dirges and Misdemeanors starting at 7pm. On Thursday, May 20 NJMH welcomes Dave Samuels, Vibraphonist, educatour and author will participate at 6:30pm. On Friday, May 21 at the Dwyer Cultural Center 'Take the A Train: A Big Band Swing Dance' featuring NJMH All Star Big Band directed by Loren Schoenberg. Tickets are $20. WNYC’s The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space Presents The Garson Kanin Fest

Six decades ago, GARSON KANIN, director and playwright of productions such as A Man to Remember and Funny Girl, premiered his classic Broadway play, The Rat Race, on the Great White Way. On the play's 60th anniversary, The Greene Space in collaboration with Yorinks Theater Group celebrates the master American storyteller with two days of dialogue, film and a world premiere performance.

Five incredible Latin Jazz legends will heat up the Blue Note stage at the Winter Latin Jazz Festival from January 19 to 31. The festival will start with jazz flutist Dave Valentin and conga legend Candido from Jan. 19 - 20. Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and his Latin jazz group will finish up the week from Jan. 21 - 24. Argentinian saxophonist Gato Barbieri will play from Jan. 25 - 27, and percussionist Poncho Sanchez will finish up the festival from Jan. 28 - 31.

GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS Extends Until 5/31

Rhoda Herrick has just announced that Garden of Earthly Delights will be extending its run for the second consecutive time, continuing through Sunday, May 31 at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane). The show, which opened to rave reviews on November 19, began previews on November 8 and was originally slated to run through January 18. The first extension would run through March 1 before the latest announcement today. Tickets for this extension are currently on sale through Ticketmaster; www.Ticketmaster.com or (212) 307-4100. Margaret Selby of CAMI Spectrum is booking an international tour for the 2009/2010 season.
