2015 New York Hot Jazz Fest to Kick Off May 3

Following the success of the previous two festivals, the 3rd Annual New York Hot Jazz Festival -- produced by the impresario Michael 'Misha' Katsobashvili, performer Bria Skonberg, and composer/producer Patrick Soluri (of Prohibition Productions and The Salon) -- returns to The Players this year and promises some of the biggest stars of the Hot Jazz and swing scenes in a summit of uptown and downtown talent spanning three generations.

On Thursday November 20, 2014 at 7pm, Producer Jason Samel of Movement Music Records in association with Love Revolution and Gold Coast Arts Center presents 'David Amram's 84th Birthday Concert: Remembering Pete Seeger' at The Hillwood Recital Hall At Tilles Center on campus at LIU Post, 720 Northern Blvd, Brookville, NY 11548. Net proceeds will benefit the 501 (c)(3) not for profit Gold Coast Arts Center, a not for profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the arts through education, exhibition, performance and outreach.

John Marshall Jazz Quintet to Play June Havoc Theatre, 8/17

The John Marshall Jazz Quintet will fill Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street) with the sound of Jazz for a one-night-only concert on Sunday, August 17 at 7pm. Set to join trumpeter John Marshall are Grant Stewart on saxophone, Tardo Hammer on keyboard, David Wong on bass and Jimmy Wormworth on drums.

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY: COMES OUT SWINGING! Cast Album Out Today

DRG Records celebrates the release of Gerard Alessandrini's Forbidden Broadway: Comes Out Swinging! (2014 Un-Original Cast Album) which is produced by Grammy Award winner Hugh Fordin, and is available in stores and online today, July 22nd. To kick off the CD release, Barnes & Noble (150 East 86 Street) will host an in-store appearance and performance from 4pm - 6pm. This CD marks Forbidden Broadway's 12th cast recording with DRG Records. Featured on the album are cast members Carter Calvert, Scott Richard Foster, Mia Gentile and Marcus Stevens, with David Caldwell on piano.

Elektra Kurtis & Ensemble Elektra Debut BRIDGES FROM THE EAST at Symphony Space, 7/16

Violinist, composer and educator Elektra Kurtis has an expansive multi-cultural background. Of Greek origin, she was raised in Poland and graduated from the Warsaw Conservatory at Miodowa, prior to completing her studies in Finland at the Sibelius Academy of Music in Helsinki. As a NYC resident for over twenty years, Elektra and her own group, Ensemble Elektra (featuring violinist Curtis Stewart; clarinetist Lefteris Bournias; drummer Reggie Nicholson; and bassist Kenny Davis), is dedicated to bridging cultural borders and genres of music, using the essence of Mediterranean music, spiced with Polish, Greek and Arabic flavor, based in contemporary jazz and classical music forms.

Barbara Cook in Concert, with upcoming performances scheduled for: Saturday, April 26 at Symphony Space in Manhattan; Saturday, May 10 at the Colden Auditorium at the Kupferberg Center at Queens College; Saturday, May 31 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey; and at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY on Saturday June 14.

City Theatre Announces HOLLIDAY WTH MULLIGAN, MIDSUMMER, and MR. JOY

City Theatre announces the first three titles of its 40th anniversary season-all compelling new works by returning playwrights: Holliday with Mulligan, a music-filled portrait of actress Judy Holliday by Willy Holtzman, Midsummer, an adventure-filled romp by David Greig and Gordon McIntyre, and Mr. Joy, a poignant exploration of a Harlem community by Daniel Beaty.
