Big band sound transforms the Lincoln Theatre into a Duke Ellington jazz club as Arena Stage presents Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, choreographed by and starring Maurice Hines (Broadway's Sophisticated Ladies and Uptown... It's Hot!) with direction by Charles Randolph-Wright (Arena's Guys and Dolls and Blue).

Parsons Dance - praised around the world for its virtuosity, exceptional theatricality, athleticism, energy and accessibility - has awarded two partial scholarships to attend the Master Choreography Workshop with Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Parsons Dance founder David Parsons. The talented dancers receiving the scholarships this year are Leslie Duner and Jamie Baptist.

Maieutic Theatre Works (MTWorks) is pleased to present the world premiere of David Stallings? BARRIER ISLAND, directed by Cristina Alicea. BARRIER ISLAND will play a 4-week limited engagement at Center Stage NY (48 West 21st Street, 4th Floor, Buzzer 401#). Performances begin Friday, April 30th through Saturday, May 22nd.

On Sunday, May 2, Active Cultures Theatre presents Sportaculture 2010 - an event where theatre meets sports. Six new, short plays about local sports will be performed including: OPENING DAY by Brent Englar, SO HUNGRY by Gwydion Suilebhan, ICE by Michael John Garces, HORSEPLAY WITH MJTA by Ben Kingsland, OFF THE BLOCK by April Brassard, and BOCCE OPERETTA by Mary Resing and Jessica Burgess.

The Tony Award®-winning Signature Theatre, nationally known for its interpretation of Stephen Sondheim musicals, celebrated its 20th anniversary season by presenting Sondheim's most popular musical SWEENEY TODD, directed by Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. The production will end its run in the 276-seat MAX Theater, April 4, 2010.

The world premiere of Taylor Coffman's DITCH is being launched by Mutineer Theatre Company, one of the newest performing arts ventures in Los Angeles. Mutineer's inaugural production of LIE WITH ME opened to rave reviews and several 'Critic's Pick's' in March 2009.

The Sundance Institute has chosen 8 playwrights to take part in their annual Sundance Institute Playwrights Retreat, Variety is reporting. The retreat began Monday, February 1st, and the residency will last through February 19th. The residency will take place in Ucross, Wyoming.
