On Monday, November 3, at 7:30pm, the world-renowned Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will kick-off a concert tour of the United States in Houston, which is an official sister city of Leipzig, Germany. The concert marks the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung will be in attendance, as well as Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker,German Consul General Ricarda Redeker, and the Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association. The performance will include the works of Felix Mendelssohn, one of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra's most celebrated music directors. There will also be 600 area students in attendance, including German and orchestral program students underwritten by a generous donor.

Paper Mill Playhouse will open its 2014-2015 season with a Broadway-bound, world-class revival of Can-Can starring Kate Baldwin as Pistache and Jason Danieley as Aristide. Can-Can will play the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from tonight, October 1 through October 26, 2014. The official press opening night is Sunday, October 5, at 7:00pm.

Today, May 22, 2014 the National Museum of the Pacific War will premiere the temporary exhibit Sketches of a Black Cat. The exhibit will bring to life Pilot Howard Miner's writings, sketches and historic photos of the places he had been and the people he met. 'The Black Cats' were squadrons of PBY Catalina amphibious planes that were painted flat black, which helped to make the planes very effective nighttime bombers.

Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company announces the National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's The Totalitarians, a high-energy political comedy. The play explores the vacuous double-speak we invent for political gain and how this language insinuates itself into our everyday lives, relationships, and culture. Nachtrieb's work was last seen at Woolly with Season 29's Boom (2008), which went on to become the most widely produced new play in the country. Woolly Company Member and Andrew W.
