Broadway's Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed is a new production that presents both the 1921 musical itself and details the events that catalyzed the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this ground-breaking work. Previews will begin Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Opening night is Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). Pacific Symphony Launches 2016 American Composers Festival Today

have been and where we are going? Or how certain kinds of music fit into this diverse universe of sound? These are some of the important questions that music raises, and each year, Pacific Symphony, led by Music Director Carl St.Clair, attempts to shed light on the answers by exploring a different facet of American music through the American Composers Festival (ACF). This year's ACF spotlights organ music through four highly acclaimed organists and the splendor of the king of instruments-in this case, the one-of-a-kind William J. Gillespie Concert Organ, located in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Built from steel, tin, oak, poplar, maple, lead and carbon fiber, the astounding instrument found in the Symphony's concert hall required three years and 42,000 hours of labor by a team of organ builders at C.B Fisk in Gloucester, Mass., before making its debut with Pacific Symphony in 2008.

Utah Symphony and Ballet West Join Forces on Debussy's JEUX

Ballet West and the Utah Symphony will share the Abravanel Hall stage on February 26 & 27 at 7:30 PM in celebration of the Orchestra's 75th anniversary season. The performance features Utah Symphony performing Debussy's "Jeux" with dancers from world-renowned Ballet West, in choreography co-commissioned by Utah Symphony as well as music by Gottschalk, Gershwin, and Ravel.

SHUFFLE ALONG will star six-time Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald, Tony Award-winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and Billy Porter, and Tony Award-nominees Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry.

Hershey Felder to Host Great American Songbook Sing-Along at TheatreWorks, 2/15

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announces a special one-night-only presentation of Hershey Felder's Great American Songbook Sing-Along. Known for his musical character creations Hershey Felder will lead audiences through 100 years of American music from George and Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, through Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and many more. Renowned jazz musicians Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli bring, 'Straighten Up and Fly Right,' a tribute performance to the legendary Nat King Cole, to Mayo Performing Arts Center on February 27, 2016 at 8 pm. Tickets are $39 - $79.

Princeton Symphony Orchestra Gala Set for 4/9

The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is excited to announce this season's gala-a celebration of Gershwin in Paris-will be held at beautiful Jasna Polana on April 9, 2016. Attendees will be thrilled and entranced by an evening reminiscent of 1920s Paris, complete with jazz-age vibe and the music of George Gershwin performed by musicians of the PSO. Music Director Rossen Milanov will be in attendance along with fans of the orchestra, long-time supporters and recent newcomers. After-dinner dancing and a spirited auction of exquisite vacation homes and luxury items will add to the evening's excitement.

In its 103rd year, the Houston Symphony announced the upcoming season at Jones Hall on Monday, January 25, in front of several hundred guests and supporters, emphasizing the institution's ongoing collaboration with living composers, a continued focus on new music, a renewed concentration on innovative programming, and world-class musicianship and entertainment. Houston Symphony Music Director Orozco-Estrada, Principal POPS Conductor Michael Krajewski, and Executive Director/CEO Mark C. Hanson were on hand to unveil the new season and share their favorite highlights.

STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 1/22/16- PORGY AND BESS

Today in 1942, the first revival of Porgy and Bess opened at the Majestic Theatre, where it ran for 286 performances. First performed in 1935, with music by George Gershwin, libretto by DuBose Heyward, and lyrics by Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, it was based on DuBose Heyward's novel Porgy and subsequent play of the same title, which he co-wrote with his wife Dorothy Heyward. All three works deal with African-American life in the fictitious Catfish Row in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 1920s. Originally conceived by George Gershwin as an 'American folk opera', Porgy and Bess premiered in New York in the fall of 1935 and featured an entire cast of classically trained African-American singers-a daring artistic choice at the time.
