KDT Presents THE OBJECT LESSON

"The Object Lesson," created and performed by Geoff Sobelle and directed by David Neumann, opens Wednesday, September 9 at 8 p.m. at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. Performances continue through October 4, 2015.

GENET PORNO to Open HERE's 2015-16 Season

HERE begins its 2015-2016 Producing Season with Genet Porno, by HERE Resident Artist Yvan Greenberg / Laboratory Theater.  This production, developed through the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP), marks a premiere.  Genet Porno plays a limited engagement September 9 - 26 at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, just below Spring Street).

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced the nominees for the 2014-15 season at its annual press conference. The 37 nominees were selected by the Bessies Selection Committee, an independent committee of 39 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design. The list of nominations follows.

On Monday, June 1, HERE honors Mary McCormick, President of the Fund for the City of New York, and Donn Russell, Director of The Peg Santvoord Foundation, at its annual gala.  The gala, entitled FutureCity, begins at 6:00pm with the Taste of Tomorrow Dinner at City Winery (155 Varick Street) featuring VIP Cocktail Reception, dinner, performances and live & silent auctions, and continues with The HEREafter Party, beginning at 8:30pm at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue), with cocktails, hors d'Oeuvres, silent auction, performances and dancing.  

Alan Cumming, Theresa Rebeck & More Set for The Orchard Project 2015

The Exchange today announced the artists and companies who will participate in its 2015 Orchard Project summer residency program. Twenty-two artists and ensembles (listed below) were selected from a competitive field of nearly 500 applicants to develop their big, new ideas at the Orchard Project. This will be the eighth summer - and the first summer in Saratoga Springs, NY - for the Orchard Project, a laboratory program where theatre artists and companies come to innovate, develop, and refine new shows. Past productions developed at the Orchard Project have gone on to be performed around the globe for over 500,000 people and to win awards from TONYs to Obies to Oliviers.

Clubbed Thumb Sets Full Schedule & Casting for 20th Annual SUMMERWORKS

Five-time Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb is proud to announce casting for SUMMERWORKS, its annual series of new plays. Now in its 20th season, SUMMERWORKS will run May 20th through June 29th at The Wild Project (195 E 3rd Street) in Manhattan, and will feature productions of three new plays: D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH by Jerry Lieblich, directed by Lee Sunday Evans; CARD AND GIFT by Kate E. Ryan, directed by Ken Rus Schmoll; and MEN ON BOATS by Jaclyn Backhaus, directed by Will Davis. The Kirk Douglas Theatre was originally an historic 1940s Streamlined Moderne-style movie house called the Culver Theater, and it is believed that Kirk Douglas' movie "Spartacus" played there in the early 1960s. In 2003 it was transformed into an intimate 317-seat live theatre venue and named for the theatre's initial major donor: Kirk Douglas. On Tuesday, October 14, 2014, CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre celebrated its 10th birthday with Anne and Kirk Douglas in attendance.

Kahane & Tiffany's THE AMBASSADOR, Philip Glass, Nonesuch Records and More Set for BAM's 2014 Next Wave Festival

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, today announced programming for the 2014 Next Wave Festival. The festival runs from today, September 9, through December 20 and comprises theater, music, dance, film, humanities, and visual art events in the institution's three venues: the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, the BAM Harvey Theater, and the BAM Fisher.

HERE Sets 2014-15 Season: TRADE PRACTICES, BLOOWST WINDKU & More

HERE announces its 2014-2015 producing season, commencing Labor Day Weekend with the premiere of the Artistic Director production, Trade Practices, by Kristin Marting & David Evans Morris; and followed by the HERE Resident Artist productions Send for the Million Men by Joseph Silvosky and Bloowst windku by Rebecca Davis. HERE's upcoming season also includes the third annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/ Now festival and HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival, which gives audiences a first look at new work in process from artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). The multidisciplinary productions in HERE's 2014-2015 season represent the culmination of commissions and developmental residencies of up to three years through HARP, and/or the Dream Music Puppetry Program.
