BWW Review: Theatre22's WATER BY THE SPOONFUL Fails to Quench Thirst
by Amelia Reynolds
- Oct 26, 2015
I am a sucker for multimedia storytelling, so when Theatre22's Water by the Spoonful advertised their play to have a jazz structure, I could not wait to see how director Julie Beckman interpreted the rhythm and dissonance of jazz into a narrative arc. Confusingly, Water by the Spoonful's storylines knit together too smoothly, not achieving the dissonance that is promised by the playbill, the score, and the dialogue.

THE PIANO LESSON Begins 10/22 at Syracuse Stage
by Tyler Peterson
- Oct 8, 2014
In August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece The Piano Lesson, the past threatens to pull apart brother and sister. Bernice treasures a one-of-a-kind piano, an heirloom with carved figures of their enslaved ancestors. Boy Willie suddenly arrives from the South determined to sell the piano and buy the land his family worked on. When the ghost of the piano's original owner appears, family conflicts escalate to a dramatic confrontation. With lyrical language rolling from the rowdy to the tender, this is one of Wilson's finest.

BWW Reviews: A CHRISTMAS CAROL and HAM FOR THE HOLIDAYS" Two Very Different Holiday Treats, One Theatre
by Jay Irwin
- Dec 12, 2013
Holiday theatrical traditions are alive and well at ACT but the two shows playing couldn't be more different from each other. First off with their 38th annual production, ACT presents the classic “A Christmas Carol” with all the polish and flash that you've come to expect. And then with their 13th installment, Peggy Platt and Lisa Koch (AKA Dos Fallopia) present their irreverent sketch comedy show “Ham for the Holidays: Close Encounters of the Pork Rind”. I managed to see both in one night (it's possible but it's tight) and I went from sobbing to belly laughs that amounted to a lovely evening of holiday treats.
