The Magnet Theater announces casting for an evening of music and improve comedy to benefit Gilda's Club New York City on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 7:30pm at The Helen Mills Theater, 139 W. 26th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues), NYC.

Ars Nova (Jason Eagan, Artistic Director; Jeremy Blocker, Managing Director) proudly announces a fall benefit concert celebrating composer Andrew Lippa (The Addams Family, The Wild Party, You?re A Good Man, Charlie Brown). The benefit concert will take place in the Ars Nova theater on Monday, November 22 at 7:00pm. Proceeds from the evening will help support Ars Nova?s extensive artistic development initiatives and programming. Tickets to the concert are scaled at $100 general admission, and $150 reserved admission, which includes priority seating and invitation to an exclusive artist cocktail party immediately following the performance in the Ars Nova Loft. On November 6, 2010, Lin-Manuel Miranda and his freestyle group, Freestyle Love Supreme, will take the stage at Le Poisson Rouge. The group, which began with Miranda at Wesleyan University, takes word suggestions from the audience and builds songs around them, entirely improved. The concert begins at 7pm. Ars Nova (Jason Eagan, Artistic Director; Jeremy Blocker, Managing Director) proudly announces the lineup for ANT Fest 2010. This year's thirty-show lineup features a range of talent, covering everything from sketch comedy to musical theater to ventriloquist rock, all on the Ars Nova stage! Conceived as a way of offering emerging artists of all kinds a point of entry into the New York arts community, this year's shows were selected from an open submission process that drew nearly 200 applicants. Now in its third year, the festival of All New Talent has quickly established itself as the premier destination to catch an eclectic mix of brand new music, theater and comedy shows. It has also become an important first step in the development process of various projects, such as Seven Minutes in Heaven (ANT Fest 2009; HERE Arts Center Spring 2010), Songs of a Night Owl (ANT Fest 2009, Berkshire Theater Festival Summer 2010 as Pool Boy), Samuel and Alasdair (ANT Fest 2009, 2010 NY Independent Theater Award for Outstanding Production of a Play), and Ithaca (ANT Fest 2008, sold out Joe's Pub run in 2009). In addition to the thirty ANT Fest shows, Ars Nova will also be offering its hit variety show, Showgasm, throughout the Fest. Featuring a mix of current and previous Fest artists, the first installation will be a special ANT Fest Kickoff Showgasm, at 8pm on October 18. The following two will be late night (10pm) on November 5 and 19. As always, all Showgasms are FREE, but reservations are encouraged and can be made at www.arsnovanyc.com/showgasm. Producers Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser will present LOMBARDI at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre this fall starring Dan Lauria as Vince Lombardi and Judith Light as Marie Lombardi, written by Academy Award winning playwright Eric Simonson and directed by Tony Award nominee Thomas Kail.

This past Friday afternoon I read that this person has been meeting with producers to consider the possibility of appearing on Broadway, in order to, 'expand her brand by taking to the stage.'  That evening I heard the 82-year-old Marilyn Maye, after nearly ninety minutes of superlative interpretations of musical theatre classics from the likes of Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser and Kander and Ebb, tell her completely enthralled audience that it's still her ambition to one day be on Broadway, before emoting a beautifully vulnerable 'Losing My Mind' that segued into a classy and celebratory 'I'm Still Here' that brought just about the entire packed Metropolitan Room house to its feet in one of the most adoring ovations I've ever seen.
