As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the USA Network announced that the ten honorees for the second annual Character Approved Awards, include Green Day and playwright Nora Ephron. The Character Approved Awards are a multimedia campaign honoring individuals who are changing the face of American culture. Inspired by USA's Characters Welcome brand, the initiative is dedicated to celebrating the true trailblazers across a variety of disciplines such as art, philanthropy, new media and film.

On March 13, REDCAT hosts its 2010 REDCAT Gala in celebration of its 6th anniversary as one of the most vibrant cultural centers in Los Angeles. The evening honors New York-based conceptual artist Glenn Ligon, with a tribute by actor, director, and artist James Franco, and L.A. philanthropist Tim Disney, with a tribute by friend and actor Alfre Woodard.

According to a report in Crain's, city officials have confirmed that the Ground Zero Arts Center, designed by Frank Gehry' has received go-ahead for construction on the originally planned site. Below-ground construction work will begin next quarter.

Signature Theatre Company announced today that ANGELS IN AMERICA: A GAY FANTASIA ON NATIONAL THEMES, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning epic work by Tony Kushner, will begin performances on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, launching the theatre's 20th anniversary season. The first New York revival of ANGELS IN AMERICA will be directed by Michael Greif. The production will open in late October on a date to be announced.

As reported yesterday, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Signature Theatre Company Founding Artistic Director James Houghton and Related Companies Executive Vice President Bruce A. Beal Jr. announced a $60 million partnership to create a new home for the Signature Theater company. The Frank Gehry-designed Signature Center will be part of Related Companies' $800 million, 59-story, residential building and hotel on 42nd Street and 10th Avenue in the heart of the theater district. The building will provide more than 800 new housing units, including more than 160 that will be targeted to low-income families. The performing arts center will feature three intimate and distinct theatres, rehearsal studios, a café, bookstore and administrative offices, and will allow Signature to more than double its audience, with anticipated attendance of more than 80,000. The LEED-Silver building will create 700 construction jobs and is expected to be completed in 2011, with the Signature Center expected to be completed in 2012.
