American Blues Theater Presents IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: LIVE IN CHICAGO! 11/21-12/28

Steve Martin to Receive 43rd AFI Life Achievement Award

Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the American Film Institute's Board of Trustees, announced today the Board's decision to honor Steve Martin with the 43rd AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film.

Angela Lansbury to Star in BLITHE SPIRIT at the Ahmanson, Beginning December 9

The Farmington Players Open Season With Classic Comedy ARSENIC & OLD LACE 9/26th

The Brewster sisters love to murder old men and bury their bodies in the basement. That zany premise sets the stage for the Farmington Players season opener, the farcical black comedy Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring. The LA Opera Presents FLORENCIA EN EL AMAZONAS, 11/22-12/20

General Director Plácido Domingo has announced final details for LA Opera's first revival of Florencia en el Amazonas, an enchanting and romantic opera by composer Daniel Catán. Co-commissioned by LA Opera in 1995, the opera returns to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion for six performances from November 22 through December 20, 2014. In the exquisitely beautiful opera, inspired by the fiction of Gabriel García Márquez, a steamboat passage along the fabled Amazon becomes a poignant voyage of discovery for all seven travelers on board.

Off-Broadway's award-winning Irish Repertory Theatre announces THE PARTING GLASS, a series of special one-night only events celebrating Irish arts and culture. THE PARTING GLASS, which marks the end of the Irish Rep's 2013-2014 Season, will feature traditional Irish music, dance, poetry and storytelling. The series will take place on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage of the Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street).

STAGE TUBE: On This Day 6/26- ARSENIC AND OLD LACE

Today in 1986, Arsenic and Old Lace opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre) where it ran for 221 performances. Arsenic and Old Lace is a play by American playwright Joseph Kesselring, written in 1939. It has become best known through the film adaptation starring Cary Grant and directed by Frank Capra. The play is a farcical black comedy revolving around Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn, NY, as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry the woman he loves.

Garden Theatre Kicks Off 2014 Summer Movie Series Today

The Garden Theatre is pleased to announce the 2014 Summer Movie Series, running from today, June 12 through August 22 at the Garden Theatre (160 West Plant Street). This summer's line-up includes 20 feature-length films: Thursday Vintage Favorites and Friday Cult Classics.
