New York Choral Society to Present Mendelssohn's ST. PAUL, 1/25 at Carnegie Hall

The New York Choral Society (NYCHORAL) and Orchestra and Music Director David Hayes, on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Carnegie Hall, will present the rarely heard St. Paul by Felix Mendelssohn. Soloists will include soprano Sarah Shafer, mezzo-soprano Haejung Shin, tenor Vale Rideout, baritone Mark Delavan and the Princeton Girlchoir. David Hayes will conduct. This performance will be sung in the original German with English supertitles.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to Present A NIGHT IN RUSSIA, 1/30

PITTSBURGH — Passion, fascination, intrigue and romance await you at Heinz Hall during BNY Mellon Grand Classics: A Night in Russia on January 30 through February 1. Guest conductor Krzysztof Urba?ski, music director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, makes his debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra during this subscription weekend. He leads a program that includes the Pittsburgh premiere of Prokofiev's Russian Overture, a solo by Concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley in a concerto by Khachaturian, and Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition,” a piece originally written for solo piano that is now one of the great orchestral works.

The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra Presents a Concert that Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of Fall of Berlin Wall, 11/3

On Monday, November 3, at 7:30pm, the world-renowned Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra will kick-off a concert tour of the United States in Houston, which is an official sister city of Leipzig, Germany. The concert marks the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung will be in attendance, as well as Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker,German Consul General Ricarda Redeker, and the Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association. The performance will include the works of Felix Mendelssohn, one of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra's most celebrated music directors. There will also be 600 area students in attendance, including German and orchestral program students underwritten by a generous donor.

One of South Australia's most talented and loved musicians Niki Vasilakis will again engage audiences in the second performance of the Cocktail Concerts series tonight, October 23.

Dueling Organists to Play Millersville University, 11/2 & 11/9

Professors Ross Ellison and Shawn Gingrich will present an interesting and engaging program of organ music, at Millersville University's Biemesderfer Concert Hall in the Winter Performing Arts Center on Sunday, November 2 at 2:30 p.m., and again at Messiah College's Parmer Concert Hall in the High Center for Performing Arts on Sunday, November 9 at 3:00 p.m. The Winter Center is located at 60 W. Cottage Ave, Millersville.

2014-15 Dudamel Fellows Conduct Los Angeles Philharmonic, Beginning Tonight

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has announced two conductors who will participate in the 2014/15 Dudamel Fellowship Program - Christian Kluxen and Gemma New. Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, together with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, created the Dudamel Fellowship Program in 2009 to provide a unique opportunity for promising young conductors from around the world to develop their craft and enrich their musical experience through personal mentorship and participation in the LA Phil's orchestral, education and community programs.

Dance Cleveland opened its 59th season in spectacular style with a performance of the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet at E. J. Thomas Hall, on the University of Akron Campus. The company, which was founded in 1996, has two official schools, one in Aspen, one in Santa Fe, and a year-round Mexican outreach program.

Joshua Bell Presents BACH, Out Today

Violinist Joshua Bell is one of the most acclaimed classical musicians of today - renowned for his expressive, elegant, intelligent playing and his deep commitment to bringing the classical tradition to wider audiences. Over the past three decades he has recorded more than 40 albums including most of the great violin repertoire. Now, Sony Classical is excited to announce that Bell has for the first time recorded the masterpieces of J.S. Bach with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. In his third season now as their music director, Bell performs Bach's sublime Violin Concertos No. 1 and No. 2, along with a never-done-before 'violin and orchestra' arrangement of the famous Chaconne from the Partita No. 2 (adapted from Mendelssohn's piano accompaniment), the Gavotte en Rondeau from Partita No. 3 for solo violin (using Schumann's accompaniment), and the universally beloved 'Air on the G string'. Clarinetist Wenzel Fuchs to Play Millersville University, 10/08

Wenzel Fuchs, principal clarinetist of the Berliner Phillharmoniker, will appear in a program of classical music at the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center at Millersville University on Wednesday evening, Oct. 8. The Winter Center is located at 60 W. Cottage Ave, Millersville. Fuchs is considered to be one of the most exciting clarinetists in the world today. He has appeared with such eminent conductors as Daniel Barenboim, Herbert Blomstedt, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Simon Rattle and Franz Welser-Most.
