BWW Reviews: MY LIFE IS A MUSICAL at the Bay Street Theatre

It is always exciting to say 'I saw the world premiere'. You will have such an opportunity if you catch the hilarious new musical My Life Is A Musical by Adam Overett running through August 31st at Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theatre. It is still in its early stages, but the enthusiastic reception seems to indicate that tickets may be in short supply as the production continues its run.

Flat Earth Theatre to Stage PYGMALION, 8/22-30

Exactly one century since its 1914 London premiere, Flat Earth Theatre presents PYGMALION, George Bernard Shaw's classic comedy of manners, newly adapted and directed by local fiction writer and Flat Earth Company Member Devon Jones. This irreverent reimagining of Shaw's time-tested story will run August 22nd - 30th, 2014, and will be the third and final production in Flat Earth's 2014 Season, "Literature in Dystopia."

Darkroom Contemporary Presents BLUEPRINT at the City Hall, July 28 - August 2

Darkroom Contemporary presents their latest evening length dance work enititled BLUEPRINT, an innovative new piece inspired by architecture and design concepts. As one of only two dance projects recognised in the official programme for World Design Capital Cape Town 2014, BLUEPRINT invites audiences to reconsider the links between dance and design.

This summer, 26 performances of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream travel to 18 neighborhood parks across Chicago, FREE FOR ALL, now through August 17, 2014. TV: Craige Els Announced as New 'Miss Trunchbull' in West End's MATILDA

Capturing the imagination of young and old alike, the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical continues to play to packed houses at the Cambridge Theatre in London. Matilda has now been seen by almost 1.5million people since it transferred to the West End in October 2011. The production was commissioned by the RSC and played to sold-out audiences at the RSC's The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon for twelve weeks from November 2010 to January 2011. Tickets are now on sale until Sunday 24 May 2015.

Theater for the New City Presents Dream Up Festival: THIRTEEN AND A HALF, 8/22-9/44

Thirteen & a Half- In a courtroom located in Purgatory, Eve sues God for immortality and defamation of character. Sariel, the Angel of Death, presents Eve's case to a jury known as the faceless twelve trying to prove that Eve's indirect relationship with God is the reason her name is forever tainted and associated with the Fall of Man.

Cal Shakes to Continue Season with PGYMALION, 7/30-8/24

California Shakespeare Theater continues its 2014 season with George Bernard Shaw's brilliant Pygmalion, directed by Cal Shakes Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone. Pygmalion plays at the Bruns Amphitheater from July 30 through August 24.

Multi Ethnic Theater to Present August Wilson's JITNEY, 8/7-31

Multi Ethnic Theater, in association with Custom Made Theatre, will present August Wilson's Jitney, August 7-31, at Gough Street Playhouse, 1620 Gough Street in San Francisco. Jitney is directed by Lewis Campbell, founder and artistic director of Multi Ethnic Theater. The play concerns a group of working class men who offer gypsy cab rides to and from African American communities where city cabs refuse to go.

The Helpmann Awards are Australia's version of Broadway's Tony Awards and London's Olivier Awards. The annual awards recognise achievement in live performance including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.

Georgia Shakespeare Opens ONE MAN, TWO GUV'NORS Tonight

Georgia Shakespeare announces the opening of One Man, Two Guvnors, the third show in the three-show summer season at the Conant Performing Arts Center tonight, July 11, 8pm curtain. The show is directed by Drew Fracher. One Man, Two Guv'nors runs until July 27.

BWW Reviews: Independent Shakespeare Co. Revels in Downton Abbey-Inspired TWELFTH NIGHT

Over the past ten years, Independent Shakespeare Co. has staked its claim on the city of Los Angeles with its 'of the people, by the people, for the people' brand of Shakespeare. Built from the ground up by two regular people (Melissa Chalsma and David Melville) who love what they do, they have created a fiercely loyal following that can't get enough of their kind of real-people theatre.

When you see the play Travesties, it will probably make you feel like your brain haywired a bit. Don't worry, though, that's supposed to happen. Tom Stoppard's Tony Award winning play, running through July 20th at Sag Harbor's beautiful Bay Street Theatre, is brilliantly constructed for many 'What?!' moments.
