Public Theater Announces Native Theater Festival 11/12

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson) is proud to announce the return of the Native Theater Festival, a four day festival dedicated to presenting extraordinary theatrical work by Native theater artists from the U.S. and Canada. Now in its second year, the Native Theater Festival will run November 12 to November 15 at The Public Theater and will feature three free readings of new works by Native playwrights followed by post-show discussions; a concert by Native and African-American singer Martha Redbone; topical field discussions on issues of particular concern to artists in the Native theater community; and a conversation with Oskar Eustis and other artists on politics and performance that will be open to the general public.

Swimming Upstream, a project incubated and coordinated through the Ashé Cultural Arts Center and V-Day with Eve Ensler, playwright of The Vagina Monologues will play at True Colors Theatre Company from November 5th through 16th at the 14th Street Playhouse. It will feature Jasmine Guy, Shirley Knight, Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington and the women of New Orleans.

To celebrate a frightful all-Hallows Eve, Here Arts Center, the starting point of the Village Halloween Parade, will host two very special curtains on Halloween night. After the performance of ARIAS WITH A TWIST, spooky sounds will be provided by DJ Flotilla DeBarge and Joey Arias, the creature of the night himself, will judge a petrifying pumpkin carving contest. Prizes will go to the most creepy, creative and cringeworthy costumes.

Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer), by arrangement with Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder and Executive Producer, Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director, Elliot Fox, Managing Director), will present Horton Foote's critically acclaimed new play, DIVIDING THE ESTATE, directed by Michael Wilson this fall on Broadway at The Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street). The production is scheduled to begin performances Thursday, October 23 and open on Thursday, November 20 for a limited engagement.

Performances begin Thursday (October 23) for Horton Foote's critically acclaimed new play, DIVIDING THE ESTATE, directed by Michael Wilson on Broadway at The Booth Theatre (222 West 45 Street). The production, which is being presented by Lincoln Center Theater by arrangement with Primary Stages, is scheduled to open on Thursday, November 20 at 6:45pm for a limited engagement.
