Orange Theatre to Stage New Work of Theatre, Dance & More, 12/11-20

Experimental ensemble Orange Theatre will present "Herakles," based on the Greek tragedy by Euripides, at their warehouse performance space in downtown Phoenix this Dec. 11-20. A work-in-progress preview of 'Herakles' played to packed houses for three nights last May; this new iteration is the finished version of that show.  

Tonya Pinkins Stars in 'MOTHER COURAGE', Beginning Tonight at Classic Stage

Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht's MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN, starring Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, begins performances tonight, December 9 for a limited engagement through January 24. MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN will be directed by Brian Kulick and will feature original music by Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik. The official press opening is Thursday, January 7.

Anne Bogart Directs Reimagined STEEL HAMMER, Beginning Tonight at BAM

The 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winner Julia Wolfe's art ballad STEEL HAMMER comes to BAM in a dramatic reincarnation by director Anne Bogart, performed by six members of SITI Company, Bang on a Can All-Stars, and three vocalists- Emily Eagen, Katie Geissinger, Molly Quinn.

Unicorn Theatre to Present MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY, 12/2

Mr. Burns, a post-electric play asks us to imagine what will happen to humanity after the apocalypse. BWW Review: THE FROGS Leaps Into a Classic Battle to Prove Who is Best in His Art

Rivers and Sanders make a great team, bouncing bawdy one-liners off each other with fluid ease throughout the first act. There is lots of slapstick humor, ranging from the famous "walk this way" physical gag to several modern references that kept the audience entertained and laughing. There are moments of true hilarity in the production, especially the tango seduction dance performed by Sanders and Markus Cummings. That scene alone is worth the price of admission!
