New Musical THE NOMAD Begins 2/19 at The Flea

The Flea Theater will present the World Premiere of THE NOMAD, a new musical with book & lyrics by Tony Award nominee Elizabeth Swados and Guggenheim Fellow Erin Courtney, composed & directed by Swados. Previews begin February 26 with opening slated for February 28.

The Flea Theater has announce its Spring 2015 Season. Leading off will be THE NOMAD, a World Premiere musical by two of Off-Off-Broadway's foremost theater makers: Tony Award Nominee Elizabeth Swados and Guggenheim Fellow Erin Courtney.

The Flea Theater presents Kim Davies' World Premiere Smoke, directed by Flea Resident Director Tom Costello (The Wundelsteipen (and other difficult roles for young people)) and featuring members of The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. Says Producing Director Carol Ostrow, 'where 50 Shades of Grey dances on the surface of BDSM, Smoke cuts to the core.' Performances will now run through February 1, 2015 at The Flea, where performances started in August of 2014.

SORRY ROBOT Runs Now thru 1/17 at PS122's COIL

As part of the tenth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 and New Ohio Theatre present the world premiere of Sorry Robot, the playwriting debut of beloved performer and Bessie-Award-winning composer Mike Iveson, best know for his work with Sibyl Kempson, Elevator Repair Service and choreographer Sarah Michelson. In Sorry Robot, four performers and a piano create a haunting world where robots long to experience the same emotions that their embarrassing, sort-of-pathetic human masters feel. In a hotel that doubles as a software development facility in an ever-dystopian Florida, the machines of the future set out to prove they can do almost anything but shut up.

The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute along with The Lee Strasberg Creative Center -- in collaboration with NYU Tisch School of the Arts' Undergraduate Department of Drama -- present THE SCHOOL PLAY, a world-premiere play written by Frank Winters, to be presented as part of the 3rd Annual Clifford Odets Ensemble Play Commission, from today, December 10 to 13 at the Marilyn Monroe Theater (115 E. 15 St.) in New York City. THE SCHOOL PLAY is directed by Danny Sharron. Performances begin December 10th and run through December 13th. A special Closing Night Gala Performance will be held December 13th. Dixon Place's new musical commission, WAR LESBIAN, will have its world premiere beginning December 5th. Featuring Erin Markey this original musical, with book by Kristine Haruna Lee, music by Kathryn Hathaway and a cast of ten is directed by Jordan Fein in collaboration with harunalee. WAR LESBIAN will play seven performances only - tonight, December 5th, 6th, 12th,13th, 19th, and 20th at 7:30PM, and December 20th at 10:00PM at Dixon Place (161 Christie Street).

Cor Theatre, the ambitious new Chicago company that first made its mark with Skin Tight at A Red Orchid Theatre in 2012, is returning with two major productions in the first half of 2015: the Midwest premiere of Erin Courtney's psychological thriller A Map of Virtue, hailed 'one of the most terrifying plays of the past decade' by the New York Times (January 8-February 14, 2015), and Love and Human Remains, the first Chicago professional production in nearly 20 years of the ground-breaking play originally titled Unidentified Human Remains and the Nature of True Love (June 4-July 11, 2015).
