Theatricum's play development program, Botanicum Seedlings, continues to foster its relationship with local playwrights by producing its first ever festival of new short plays. The Fall (short) Playreading Festival features the works of emerging and award-winning writers based in the L.A. area, all of whom have been involved with Seedlings. A harvest of eight short plays based on the theme 'backyard fruit,' along with gourmet seasonal refreshments, The Fall (short) Playreading Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, November 20 & 21, at 2 pm. Admission is Free; donations gratefully accepted.

Theater Latté Da today announced a dynamic season of four productions that feature the powerhouse rock opera Evita at the Ordway Center McKnight Theatre (September 30 - October 31, 2010), the new holiday classic All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 at the Pantages Theatre (December 16-19, 2010), the regional premiere of an award-winning new play with music, Song of Extinction, at the Guthrie Theater Dowling Studio (February 25 - March 20, 2011), and the world-premiere of Steerage Song at the Fitzgerald Theater (June 2-5, 2011).

Chosen from hundreds of submissions by playwriting workshops, university theatre programs, and professional companies both in the U.S. and abroad, these 40 plays will be presented July 13th - 18th at the Lion Theatre in Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street). Out of these plays, six finalists will be chosen by the Samuel French, Inc. editorial staff to receive publication and licensing contracts.

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced the winners and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles and Orange County theatre for the year 2008. The 40th Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony took place Monday, March 16 at the historic El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood, and was co-hosted by Vicki Lewis and Wenzel Jones.

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles and Orange County theatre for the year 2008. The 40th Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 16 at the El Portal Theatre, thanks to the generous donation of the El Portal's management. The theatre is located at 5269 Lankershim Blvd in North Hollywood. Tickets are $40; $5 off if purchased in advance via PayPal. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a catered reception (with no-host bar) and silent auction. Broadway performer Michael Shawn Lewis will once again be featured as Jean Valjean, the desperate yet determined protagonist at the center of this epic story of justice, love, and faith. Lewis was seen on the SMT stage last summer as Guido in Nine. He debuted at SMT as Curly in Oklahoma! and played the Beast in the 2004 production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
