InDepth InterView Special Flashback: Elaine Stritch

AUTHOR'S NOTE: One of the most iconic Broadway leading ladies in theatrical history, in honor of her passing earlier today at the age of 89, let us revisit this career-spanning InDepth InterView with the one and only Elaine Stritch. As a personal aside, following the conclusion of the interview proper the conversation between Ms. Stritch and I continued for several more minutes and she emphatically relayed to me that this had been her favorite interview to date and that she was incredibly appreciative and pleased with being questioned about the topics chosen herein. The following is reprinted exactly as it originally appeared here on BroadwayWorld on February 17. Hats off to a dynamite dame.

BWW Reviews: HANDS SOLO: PIANOMAN at ACT Elicits Jazzy Charm

I always get a little worried about the one man, autobiographical shows. All too often they can become self-indulgent therapy sessions as the performer delves into a life that we may or may not care about. Luckily this is not the case with 'Hands Solo: Pianoman' currently playing at ACT as Victor Janusz offers up a more self-reflective rather than self-indulgent journey mixed with some wonderfully sweet and jazzy tunes from he and his piano.

BWW Reviews: Theatre20's 'COMPANY' Hits Most of the Right Notes

Theatre20's production of COMPANY is now playing at the Berkeley Street Threatre in downtown Toronto, and the production - which opened on June 27 hits most of the right notes, but I found it to be lacking the finesse it needed to be the first class production it had the potential to be. The story should be a familiar one to many - a man in his mid thirties with commitment issues struggling to find meaning in his life. The plot is so standard, in fact, it's practically a cliche. In COMPANY, however, the single lifestyle is scrutinized under a microscope in a series of scenes focusing on the the protagonist, Bobby, and his interactions with his coupled friends. Bobby even quotes Socrates at one point, stating that 'the unexamined life is not worth living.'
