National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that The Theatre @ Boston Court is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Boston Court is recommended for a $10,000 grant to support the first phase of a multifaceted new play development program.

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies triumphs with nostalgia, tradition and simplistic storytelling in his stage adaptation of Grace Paley's The Loudest Voice re-envisioned Coney Island Christmas, a world premiere one-act now center stage at the Geffen through December 30. In present day Los Angeles a grandmother (Angela Paton) tries to motivate her granddaughter Clara (Grace Kaufman) by telling her a story about her youth in Depresion era 1935 Brooklyn/Coney Island. Clara is avoiding the school play by feigning illness and grandma's rich tale of how she first went on stage and found true joy proves an inspiration not only to Clara but to anyone at any age who refuses to stop dreaming.

'COLOGNE, Or The Ways Evil Enters The World.' the short story, was first published by Windfall Press. Its production history began in 1999 at Highways in Santa Monica starring the author, and under David Schweizer's direction continued at The Tiffany Theatre in West Hollywood produced by Paula Holt & Eileen T'Kaye. It subsequently played at Theatre 150, Ojai, at The Evidence Room, LA, at Santa Fe Playhouse, New Mexico, Off-Broadway at the Rattlestick Theatre (adding Suzi Dietz to the producing team), and finally at the Lavender Footlights Festival in Miami. The current production marks the debut of Harry Hart-Browne in the role and the first time an actor other than the playwright has assayed the role.
