Lauren Brown and Chloe Courtney today announce the full cast for Russell Bolam's production of Cyrano de Bergerac. Kathryn Hunter plays the title role of Cyrano and is joined by Sabrina Bartlett as Roxane, Ellie Kendrick as Christian and by Holly Burn, Tina Chiang, Penelope Dimond, Tamzin Griffin and Kiran Sonia Sawar. The production opens on 22 February at Southwark Playhouse, with previews from 18 February, and runs until 19 March.

Resonance Ensemble (Eric Parness, Artistic Director; Rachel Reiner, Managing Director) celebrates classic plays and the new works they inspire. This year the season, dubbed "The Language of Love," will include the Edmond Rostand classic Cyrano de Bergerac, adapted by Gabriel Barre, Rick Sordelet and Alexander Sovronsky, directed by Gabriel Barre, in rep with the World Premiere of the Cyrano-inspired play Burning by Ginger Lazarus, directed by Eric Parness. The season begins on February 3 and will run through February 28, 2016 at the Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46th Street). Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at ResonanceEnsemble.org.

Today in 1946, Cyrano de Bergerac opened at the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre), where it ran for 193 performances. Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand. Although there was a real Cyrano de Bergerac, the play bears a very scant resemblance to his life. The entire play is written in verse, in rhyming couplets of 12 syllables per line, very close to the Alexandrine format, but the verses sometimes lack a caesura. Notable English-speaking Cyranos include Ralph Richardson, DeVeren Bookwalter, Derek Jacobi, Richard Chamberlain, and Christopher Plummer, who played the part in Rostand's original play and won a Tony Award for the 1973 musical adaptation. Kevin Kline played the role in a Broadway production in 2007. The play is currently in previews at the American Airlines Theatre, starring Douglas Hodge in the title role.

The Kennedy Center hosts its 14th annual Page-to-Stage new play festival from Today, September 5 to Monday, September 7, 2015, featuring more than 50 theaters from the D.C. metropolitan area, all with a mission to produce and support new work. Schon in Edmond Rostands romantisch-komodiantischem Versdrama Cyrano de Bergerac aus dem Jahr 1897 verbanden sich das Musketier-Sujet und das Thema der Überwindung von Komplexen als notwendige Zutat fur die große Liebe zu einer aktionsgeladenen und zugleich beruhrenden Geschichte voll Esprit und Poesie. In der Musicalfassung der hollandischen Autoren Koen und Ad van Dijk aus dem Jahr 1992 gelangte diese Geschichte mit Musik im Stil von Claude-Michel Schonbergs Les Miserables und Anklangen an Andrew Lloyd Webbers Phantom der Oper erfolgreich an den Broadway. Nun erobert dieses Musical uber vermeintliche Helden und einen großen Poeten, ihre Komplexe und Versagensangste die Bielefelder Stadttheaterbuhne. Die Premiere findet am 6. September statt, weitere Vorstellungen laufen bis Marz 2016.
