After a wildly successful transfer to Off-Broadway in 2011, EndTimes Productions once again returns to Off-Broadway with the 7th Annual NAKED HOLIDAYS. On Saturday night, August 25, I had the pleasure of attending Cone Man Running Productions' annual twenty-four hour play festival, SPONTANEOUS SMATTERING. Although this was my first official Smattering, Saturday night was Cone Man Running Productions' third inception, and it was clear that they had gathered an avid fan base over the past two productions. A couple of laughs into the first short play, I could see why it has become such a popular event. This annual twenty-four hour play festival showcases the creative talent of local playwrights, directors, and actors and provides Houston audiences with a night of theatre that is anything but mainstream.
To say that Houston has an exceptional theatre scene is an understatement. One of my favorite aspects is that there is always something new to see. Last night I had the pleasure of attending Scriptwriters/Houston's 23rd Annual 10X10 Showcase, a production that highlights original plays by local playwrights. Scriptwriters/Houston's annual 10X10 production, in association with Next Stage Press, features ten new plays, each lasting ten minutes in length. A welcome addition to this year's production is the inclusion of eight original monologues. This year's sampling of original works paints an intimate portrait of humanity and ultimately creates a nuanced and unforgettable evening of entertainment.

World Premieres are always exciting to attend. You never know what you are getting yourself into, so there is the allure and excitement of mystery. Sometimes they're terrible. Sometimes they're amazing. Sometimes they're in-between. Luckily, Leighza Walker's first full-length play, FISHING, is an enjoyable and fascinating exploration of loyalty, fidelity, love, and life.
Cone Man Running Productions presents FISHING, written and directed by Leighza Walker, tonight, January 17-February 2, 2013. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the production in the photos below!

It has been noted time and time again that Houston, Texas has one of the most impressive theatre scenes in the nation. Comparable to New York, one of the aspects that makes Houston's theatre scene so notorious, is the amount of talented playwrights premiering their work at local venues. Coupled with a buzzing experimental theatre scene, Houston is constantly producing new and innovative theatre. Celebrating its fifth season, The Houston Fringe Festival, kicks off on August 30, 2012 and offers a smorgasbord of plays written by experimental veterans and newbies until its closing weekend September 15, 2012.
