Boston Midsummer Opera Presents THE BARTERED BRIDE, Now thru 7/27

Hidden identities, secret bargains and a dancing bear...can love possibly find its way? All will be revealed when Boston Midsummer Opera (BMO) presents its ninth season production, The Bartered Bride. Bedich Smetana's comic masterpiece - with its infectious tunes, rollicking ensembles and inventive humor which have long made it an audience favorite - will be fully staged and costumed and presented at the Tsai Performance Center, Boston University for three performances only, today, July 23, and July 25 and 27.

A.C.T.'s 2014 Season Gala Raises Over $670K for Actor Training and Arts Education Programs

With the help of students from the Master of Fine Arts and Young Conservatory programs, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) raised over $670,000 at its 2014 Season Gala, FLEISHHACKER, MAGNIN, SWIG -- A.C.T.'s MAD, MAD MEN, which honored the three founding fathers of A.C.T. -- Mortimer Fleishhacker, Jr., Cyril Magnin, and Melvin Swig -- and celebrated the past, present, and future of the organization. The Gala took place on Sunday, May 18, at the historic Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. The proceeds from the Gala support A.C.T.'s actor training and arts education programs.

Linchpin Theatre to Stage NINA VARIATIONS, 6/6-22

Linchpin Theatre will produce The Nina Variations by Steven Dietz this summer. Linchpin's David Fehr and Kathryn Bartholomew are featured in Dietz's tribute to the characters 'Nina' and 'Treplev' from Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. The Nina Variations explores the synchronicity and dissonance revealed when the two lovers feel compelled to say the things left unsaid.

A.C.T.'s Will on Wheels to Bring the Bard to Bay Area Schools

The American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program continues to grow its annual Will on Wheels program, which tours works of William Shakespeare to schools around the Bay Area, with a record-setting 24 performances this year. The 2014 Will on Wheels tour spotlights abridged versions of two Shakespeare classics: Romeo and Juliet and a two-woman production of As You Like It. Both productions feature student actors from the A.C.T. M.F.A. Program class of 2015.

A.C.T. Receives NEA Art Works Grant

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. A.C.T. is recommended for a $30,000 grant to support their upcoming production of The Orphan of Zhao, playing June 4-29, 2014 at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater.

Linchpin's inaugural production will be the seldom performed play King John by William Shakespeare. Falstaff in love? Is the world his oyster? Not if these quick-witted housewives have their way, as Boston audiences will discover when Boston Midsummer Opera (BMO) presents its eighth season production, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Otto Nicolai's tuneful 1849 version of Shakespeare's humorous tale. This popular European opera, rarely seen in the United States, will be fully staged and costumed and presented at the Tsai Performance Center, Boston University for three performances only, today, July 24, 26 and 28. Director Antonio Ocampo-Guzman makes his BMO debut and nationally acclaimed conductor Susan Davenny Wyner will lead the BMO orchestra. The opera will be sung in an English translation by John Moriarty, and is the first professional production of this opera in New England.

The Pasadena Playhouse (Sheldon Epps, Artistic Director and Elizabeth Doran Executive Director) announces a one-night only concert featuring Ozomatli, which continues the celebration of the ground-breaking musical diversity of its current production: One Night With Janis Joplin and Los Angeles' eclectic music landscape. A portion of the proceeds from this concert will benefit The Playhouse's Wells Fargo Theatrical Diversity Project. Tickets are now on sale for this special evening on Monday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. that will feature all-new music from their upcoming album. A limited number of VIP tickets are available which include a Cafe Con Ozo meet and greet with the band members featuring Ozomatli's Ozo Espresso, courtesy of Zona Rosa Coffee. Zona Rosa Caffe and Ozomatli have a long history of collaboration, starting in 1995 when Ozo began playing weekly shows at the Pasadena coffeehouse that specializes in Organic and Latino coffees.
