TCG Books Announces Release of Benedict Nightingale's GREAT MOMENTS IN THE THEATRE

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the availability of Great Moments in the Theatre by Benedict Nightingale, published by Oberon Books (London). Starting with the first performance of Aeschylus' The Oresteia in 458 BC and ending with the premiere of Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem in London of 2009 AD, former New York Times critic and chief theatre critic of the Times (London) for over 20 years, Benedict Nightingale collects in one volume what he extols as the greatest moments in theatre.

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center presents the one-woman comedy Ruby Wax: Out Of Her Mind, starring the brash and honest UK based comic Ruby Wax. Presented by The Broad Stage, Ruby Wax: Out Of Her Mind opens on January 23rd and runs through February 3rd.

On January 17th, TCL (formerly Grauman's) Chinese Theatre presented a public screening of 'THE BIRDS' featuring a Q&A with cast co-stars Tippi Hedren and Veronica Cartwright. Hosted by Red Line Tour's owner, Tony Hoover, the screening celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hitchcock's Masterpiece released in January, 1963. Check out photos from the event below!

The directorial debut of Dustin Hoffman, QUARTET is a comedy starring Maggie Smith (HARRY POTTER franchise, GNOMEO AND JULIET), Billy Connolly (GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, THE LAST SAMURAI), Michael Gambon (HARRY POTTER franchise, THE KING'S SPEECH) and Pauline Collins (ALBERT NOBBS, FROM TIME TO TIME). QUARTET tells the story of Reggie (Courtenay), Wilf (Connolly) and Cissy (Collins) who reside in Beecham House, a home for retired opera singers. Each year they stage a concert to celebrate Verdi's birthday, which also raises funds for the home. Reggie's ex-wife Jean (Smith) arrives at the home and creates tension, playing the diva part but refusing to sing in the concert. QUARTET was written by Sir Ronald Harwood.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced that Academy Award-winner Barbra Streisand, the first American woman artist to receive credit as writer, director, producer and star of a major feature film, YENTL, will be honored at the 40th Annual Chaplin Award Gala held at Lincoln Center on the evening of Monday, April 22, 2013.

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center present FREUD'S LAST SESSION, New York's long-running hit play by Mark St. Germain, is set to open in Los Angeles tonight starring Judd Hirsch as Sigmund Freudand Tom Cavanagh as C. S. Lewis under the direction of Tyler Marchant, who helmed the original New York production. Presented by The Broad Stage and CRC Productions, FREUD'S LAST SESSION played preview performances January 11(th) through January 15(th). Opening Night is tonight, January 16(th) and will run for a limited engagement through February 10(th) at The Broad Stage.

The Music Box Theatre takes this opportunity to take a look at some past award winners and see how this year's crop stacks up! Oscar-Winning Filmsmatinee series features a roster of movies that have racked up at least three Academy Awards apiece. Oscar-Winning Films show weekends, December 29, 2012-February 24, 2013, 11:30 a.m. at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., Chicago. Tickets are $7.25 at the box office.
