Game Changer: John McLendon and the Secret Game, published by Carolrhoda Books, a division of Lerner Publishing Group, regales readers with a fascinating account of a secret game that foreshadowed the future of basketball. Lucinius is ordered by his master to assemble the stories told by eye-witnesses to the life and death of Jesus Christ. Cornelius was the Centurion at the Crucifixion. Cornelius is hated by the Jews and the Romans. He is haunted by the Crucifixion because he won the shroud worn by Christ in a game of dice. He takes Lucinius on a journey throughout the Empire and tells him what seem to be fantastic stories about famous Romans during the era of the Republic, some 100 years ago. These stories contain elements which Cornelius could not possibly know, unless he is making them up or unless there is some other explanation. A new book by Franz-Josef Meiers analyses Germany's role in the euro crisis. Based on the perception of Berlin as the emerging capital of the European Union, Meiers investigates three interrelated issues: Did the German policy approach of imposing austerity programs on countries in the middle of a deep recession contribute to the successful management of the euro crisis? Does Germany extend its way over its European partners by forcing them to surrender to the German diktat of fiscal “Disziplin” and economic efficiency? Is the stubborn insistence on rigid fiscal adjustment another ominous sign of the Berlin Republic moving away from the country's traditional European vocation toward an imperial leadership role? The main argument of Germany's Role in the Euro Crisis is that Germany's role in and responses to the euro crisis can best be explained by different concepts of self, historical memory, and institutional practices.

Rubicon Theatre, a not-for-profit professional regional theatre company in Ventura, California, announces its production of WEST SIDE STORY (Book by ARTHUR LAURENTS, Music by LEONARD BERNSTEIN, Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM), to be performed by the students of the Education Department's MUSICAL THEATRE INTENSIVE, featuring at twenty-one piece orchestra conducted by DANIEL NEWMAN-LESSLER.
