Bella Vita Entertainment in association with the Whitefire Theatre (which is celebrating its 30th Anniversary) will present a world premiere play, SLOW DANCE IN MIDTOWN, written and directed by Elizabeth Sarnoff ("Lost," "Deadwod," Alcatraz") and stars Don Swayze, Meredith Scott Lynn, Nick Stabile and Tricia Small. SLOW DANCE IN MIDTOWN will preview on Tuesday, April 3; Wednesday, April 4 & Thursday, April 5 at 8pm and will open on Friday, April 6 and run through Saturday, May 12 at the Whitefire Theatre, 13500 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks.
As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Broadway legand Benadette Peters will guest star on the March 19 episode of SMASH, and the show has just released an official description that reveals some details on her appearance. As described by KSiteTV: 'Everything comes to a head as Eileen (Anjelica Huston), Derek (Jack Davenport) and the team present "Marilyn The Musical" to would-be investors. Ivy (Megan Hilty) is under pressure to perform, while her mother, Broadway star Leigh Conroy (special guest Bernadette Peters), undermines her at every turn. Karen (Katharine McPhee) must decide between the workshop and a meeting with a big-time music producer. Julia (Debra Messing) and Michael (guest star Will Chase) must face up to the consequences of their actions.'
Cast members of the NETworks touring production of "Shrek The Musical" (coming to Detroit February 28 - March 11 at the Fisher Theatre) will perform in a very special concert to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the John F. Kennedy School PTA in Ferndale. The benefit takes place on Monday, March 5 (7 p.m.) at The Loving Touch - 22634 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale. This is an 18 and over event.
In a new interview with Reuters, NBC's president of programming, Bob Greenblatt told the news service that he was 'not at all disappointed in its performance. The expectations were never that 'Smash' would be the biggest hit on television,' Greenblatt said by telephone.
'But two years ago NBC wasn't even programming dramas at 10 p.m. To go from that to a 2.3 rating is a complete success.' (A 2.3 rating equates to 6.6 million viewers)'
Regarding the show's likelihood of garnering a second season, they report that 'Greenblatt said the answer is most likely yes, but he did not rule out moving the show to a new day or time next season.'
