Violinist Lisa Batiashvili Releases Her Deutsche Grammophon Debut

Violinist Lisa Batiashvili, already known in concert halls around the world and acclaimed for her "dazzling virtuosity" (Financial Times), makes her much-anticipated Deutsche Grammophon debut with this startling program featuring classics by Shostakovich and Rachmaninov as well as works by Kancheli and Part.

ABT to Perform Ratmansky's THE BRIGHT STREAM at Kennedy Center, 1/21 2011

American Ballet Theatre will stage the Company Premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's The Bright Stream on January 21, 2011 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. The ballet will be given four performances at the Kennedy Center through January 23, 2011. ABT will also perform The Bright Stream during its Spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 16-July 9, 2011.

Bach Festival Society Announces 18th Annual Young Artist Competition Winners

The Bach Festival Society congratulates the winners of the 18th Annual Young Artist Competition, held on Saturday, November 20. Over 50 entrants from around the state competed, with twelve prize-winning contestants advancing to the finalist round. The finalist recital was open to the public and was enjoyed by over 150 guests. The top three winners are listed below along with the piece each performed for the final round of judging. 'This year's competition drew strong competitors from throughout the state. We are very proud of all the talented musicians who competed,' said Artistic Director and Conductor John. V. Sinclair.

Sony Classical Releases Limited Edition 60-CD Set to Honor Leonard Bernstein

Leonard Bernstein: The Symphony Edition, a limited edition 60-CD set that includes all of Bernstein's definitive symphonic recordings from 1953 to 1976 -- 57 of them with the New York Philharmonic -- has been released by Sony Classical in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his death.

NY Philharmonic Pays Tribute to Dimitri Mitropoulos Throughout the Month of November

The New York Philharmonic will offer a tribute to Dimitri Mitropoulos, its former Music Director and one of the towering musical figures of the 20th century - with concerts, lectures, film screenings, an archival exhibit, and a special radio program - throughout the month of November 2010, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his death. The tribute is sponsored by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

ABT Announces 2011 Spring Season at the Met

American Ballet Theatre's 2011 Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House, May 16-July 9, was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. Highlights of the season include World Premieres by Alexei Ratmansky and Christopher Wheeldon, the New York Company Premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's The Bright Stream and the U.S. Premiere of a new work by Benjamin Millepied. Principal Dancers for the 2011 Metropolitan Opera Season include Maxim Beloserkovsky, Roberto Bolle, Jose Manuel Carreño, Angel Corella, Herman Cornejo, Irina Dvorovenko, Marcelo Gomes, David Hallberg, Paloma Herrera, Julie Kent, Gillian Murphy, Veronika Part, Xiomara Reyes, Ethan Stiefel, Diana Vishneva and Michele Wiles. Natalia Osipova, a principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, and Alina Cojocaru, a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet, will return for the Spring season as guest artists.

Ensemble du Monde Opens Season with NIGHT PRAYERS, 10/2

Ensemble du Monde, led by Marlon Daniel, celebrates the opening of its 2010/11 season on Saturday October 2, 2010 at 8:00 pm in Merkin Concert Hall, Kaufmann Center for the Arts. This first concert of the year, entitled 'Night Prayers', features clarinet virtuoso Julian Milkis as soloist and renowned musicologist and author Solomon Volkov as guest host. The program will feature Schoeck's Sommernacht, Op. 58, Mendelssohn's Andante for Clarinet and Orchestra, Mozart's Concerto for Clarinet in A Major, K. 622, and the American Premiere of composer Giya Kancheli's sublime new work Night Prayers for Clarinet, Strings, and Tape.

Bosco Awarded Purchase College Honorary Degree May 14

President Thomas J. Schwarz, will preside at the 38th Commencement ceremony at Purchase College State University of New York on Friday, May 14 at 1 PM on the West Lawn adjacent to The Performing Arts Center (735 Anderson Hill Road). Degrees will be awarded to approximately 1032 undergraduates and 55 graduate students.
