Mary Chapin Carpenter to Perform with the New York Philharmonic, 2/28-3/1

'Newport Jazz Festival(R): Now 60' Tour to Launch 2/8

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival (August 1-3, 2014), clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, vocalist/pianist Karrin Allyson, bassists Larry Grenadier and Ben Allison, pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Mark Whitfield, trumpeter Randy Brecker, and drummer Clarence Penn embark on the 17-city 'Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60' Tour, February 8 - March 30, 2014, with more dates during June, July and August in North America and Europe.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents American Voices hosted by Renee Fleming, a groundbreaking festival of performances, master sessions, and symposia celebrating the rich diversity of American singing, today, November 22-24, 2013. Curated and hosted by world-renowned American singer Renee Fleming, American Voices will bring together some of the biggest names in vocal music for a genre-spanning, landmark concert with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Kennedy Center's AMERICAN VOICES Festival with Sutton Foster, Norm Lewis & More to be Filmed for PBS' GREAT PERFORMANCES

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced that a one-hour documentary about its American Voices festival, a weekend-long celebration of singing curated and hosted by Rene?e Fleming, will be broadcast nationally during a special presentation of THIRTEEN/WNET New York's Great Performances on PBS in 2014. In the documentary, camera crews will follow vocal masters, industry titans, and emerging artists as they gather at the Kennedy Center to celebrate, explore, and debate the legacy, landscape, and future of American singing. A precise airdate will be announced in the coming months.

Anne Tofflemire, Cyrille Aimee & More Set for Birdland,11/18-24

The Broadway at Birdland concert series will present singer Anne Tofflemire in concert on Monday, November 18 at 7pm. Backstage Bistro Award-winning singer Anne Tofflemire returns to New York with her latest show, This Funny World, an evening of popular songs from Rodgers & Hart, Stephen Sondheim, Joni Mitchell, Irving Berlin, Charles Strouse & Lee Adams. Accompanist/music director for the evening will be Ross Patterson. Anne Tofflemire was raised in Northern California, where she starred in the long running San Francisco productions of Side by Side by Sondheim and Rap Master Ronnie. She was discovered by the Academy Award winning lyricist Sammy Cahn, with whom she toured nationally and internationally in his Sammy Cahn: Words and Music. Her other theatre credits include Peter Pan opposite Cathy Rigby, Maria in West Side Story, A Little Night Music, and understudying, as well as going on for Donna McKechnie as Mama Rose in Gypsy. Her cabaret appearances include Town Hall, Firebird Cafe, Delmonico's, and Eighty Eights in Manhattan, the Plush Room in San Francisco, the Gardenia in Los Angeles. Her CD, Let's Face the Music, was released by Harbinger Records.

Geri Allen, Terri Lyne Carrington and Esperanza Spalding Join Forces at Segerstrom Center This Weekend

Three of today's leading ladies of jazz, Geri Allen (piano), Terri Lyne Carrington (drums) and Esperanza Spalding (bass), also known as the trio ACS, will take to the stage at Segerstrom Center for the Arts today and tomorrow, October 25 and 26 for four performances in Samueli Theater. Having formed during their work together on Carrington's Grammy Award-winning album The Mosaic Project, the innovative ensemble is now touring and taking jazz to new and exciting heights. In response to their debut at New York's legendary Village Vanguard, The Village Voice remarked, 'the set's expressionistic push-pull turned out to be a show of jazz fealty as disorienting as it was riveting.'

Mary Chapin-Carpenter and Marc Cohn Perform at the Mayo Center Tonight

The Mayo Performing Arts Center presents an evening featuring the music of two Grammy-winning singer-songwriters -- country legend Mary Chapin Carpenter ('Passionate Kisses,' 'I Feel Lucky,' 'He Thinks He'll Keep Her') and folk and pop favorite Marc Cohn ('Walking in Memphis') tonight, July 26 at 8 pm. Tickets are $39-79.

The Hartt School Welcomes Javon Jackson as Associate Professor of Jazz

The Hartt School will welcome acclaimed tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson as Associate Professor of Jazz and Chair of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. Jackson, who's appointment begins in August, will serve as the educational and administrative leader for the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, and will teach, work with ensembles, assist in recruitment and development efforts, and represent the Institute and The Hartt School both internally and externally.
