Highlighting the depth and breadth of national and international tap artistry, Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), the nation's premier presenter of American tap dance and contemporary percussive arts,presents Rhythm World, the oldest and most comprehensive festival of American tap and contemporary percussive arts in the world, July 22-August 4, 2013 in downtown Chicago.
Exemplifying its commitment to provide Los Angeles with inspiring, immersive entertainment for all ages, The Music Center announced its 2013-2014 Season, which includes major dance premieres, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary performances for families and its nationally recognized series of free 'do-it-yourself' arts events. According to The Music Center, this extensive group of performances and arts-making opportunities - which includes engagements at all four of its venues and Grand Park - is The Music Center's most comprehensive, diverse season to date.
The Kennedy Center and Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) celebrate the ever-evolving art of percussive dance with CHRP's JUBA! Masters of Tap and Percussive Dance on December 7, 2012 at 8 p.m. in the Eisenhower Theater. Curated by CHRP Founder and Artistic Director Lane Alexander, this full-length tap concert will feature a host of extraordinary foot drummers and percussive arts masters from all over the country. Based in Becket, Mass., Jacob's Pillow hosts more than 160 free pre-show talks, post-show interviews, and hour-long PillowTalks during its annual Festival. Jacob's Pillow announces its 2010 full season calendar, including more than 200 free performances, talks, photography exhibits, tours, and events. Free event highlights include the Blake's Barn exhibit Lois Greenfield: Imagined Moments, featuring Greenfield's signature dance photography, and 'Let's Dance!' a new community event on July 4 with free dance classes and workshops for teens and adults. PillowTalks, held Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 4pm, include Virginia Johnson, recently named Artistic Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem (June 24), choreographer/director Bill T. Jones (July 22), and the return of Pulitzer Prize winner Jules Feiffer (July 31). Inside/Out performance highlights include the all-female hip-hop group Decadancetheatre (July 7), the dancers of The School at Jacob's Pillow's first ever Tap Program (July 10), alumnus of The School at Jacob's Pillow and Artistic Director of his own ensemble, Avi Scher (July 23), and ¡Flamenco Revolución! Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook finishes up its twelfth season celebrating the diversity of American popular song with a final week of different and dazzling concerts. On March 5th, one of the hottest composers on the theater scene - Jeanine Tesori ("Shrek The Musical" and "Caroline, or Change") will perform an evening of her music along with special guests, who will include Chuck Cooper, Daniel Breaker, and a host of others.
