2011 Drama Desk Awards are Tonight!; MORMON Leads

Nominations for The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 9:30 AM at the New York Friars Club, 57 East 55th Street, in Manhattan. Amongst the shows with multiple nominations were THE BOOK OF MORMON with 12, ANYTHING GOES with 10, THE MERCHANT OF VENICE with 7, BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, SEE ROCK CITY & OTHER DESTINATIONS and WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN with 6.

Star-Studded FOLLIES Opens at Kennedy Center 5/21

The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' production of Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's FOLLIES will officially open tonight, May 21, 2011 after previews which began May 7. The cast will feature two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters as Sally Durant Plummer, four-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwellas Phyllis Rogers Stone, two-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein as Buddy Plummer, Ron Raines as Benjamin Stone and Olivier Award winner Elaine Paige as Carlotta Campion.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Launches Online Casting Contest

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, the smash-hit musical with productions in Chicago, New York, London, and a national tour to start this fall, announces 'Do You Have What It Takes?,' an online casting contest to find musician/singer/actors for the roles of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. 'Do You Have What It Takes?' will launch Tuesday, May 17 at www.MillionDollarQuartetLive.com/casting.

TV: Robert Britton Lyons Brings His Rockabilly Alter-Ego Back to Broadway in MDQ!

On May 3, Robert Britton Lyons, Million Dollar Quartet's original Carl Perkins, returned home to the Nederlander stage in the hit production. Lyons is just back from West End, where he originated the role of Perkins in Million Dollar Quartet for London audiences. Original co-star Hunter Foster rejoined the produciton on May 3, as well.

STAGE TUBE: All About Roundabout's DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY

Roundabout Theatre Company's production of the new musical, Death Takes a Holiday will begin performances on Friday, June 10, 2011 and open officially on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). Death Takes a Holiday will play a limited engagement through September 4, 2011. This production marks the second time a new musical has been presented in this theatrical space, following the recent production of The Tin Pan Alley Rag.
