Now in it's seventh season, the Obie Award winning The Fire This Time Festival is pleased to announce the play readings for their 2016 festival, which will run January 18-February 6 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). In addition to play readings the 2016 festival will also feature 10-minute plays directed by Nicole A. Watson, excerpts of solo shows, excerpts from the plays developed in the inaugural writer's group, and a panel discussion.

The New Black Fest, a theater organization celebrating provocative storytelling, music and discussion from the African Diaspora, is proud to announce The New Black Fest at The Lark.

Now in it's sixth season, The Fire This Time Festival will welcome seven new playwrights into the family, January 19-February 8 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). These playwrights will present an evening of ten-minute plays, each inspired by one of Alex Harsley's original photographs. This year's festival will also feature the World Premiere of Nathan Yungerberg's play Pousada Azul, directed by Russel G. Jones (Father Comes Home from the Wars at The Public). Special events will include a play reading series, an open mic night, a movie screening, and a panel discussion on art and activism. In the spirit of Facing Our Truth, The New Black Fest will commission 6 black male playwrights to write monologues and/or performance essays entitled HANDS UP: 6 playwrights, 6 testaments. The playwrights include Dennis Allen II, Nathan James, Nathan Yungerberg, Eric Holmes, Idris Goodwin, and Glenn NSangou.

New Georges will present World Premiere productions by Kate Benson (2014 Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission winner), Krista Knight (Salamander Leviathan at Joe's Pub; Clementine and the Cyber Ducks at Incubator Arts Project), and Caroline V. McGraw (2013 Page 73 Playwriting Fellow) as part of The New Georges Jam On Toast, a brand-new festival featuring work by The New Georges Jam, a 'performance gym' for early-career female playwrights and directors founded in 2010 by Lucy Alibar, Jess Chayes, and Portia Krieger.

For the fifth year in a row Horse Trade Theater Group will present The Fire This Time Festival (TFTT), providing a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African-American descent to explore new voices, styles, and challenging new directions for 21st century performing arts in order to move beyond common misconceptions of what's possible in 'black theater.'

For the fourth year in a row Horse Trade Management Group will present The Fire This Time Festival, providing a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African-American descent to explore new voices, styles, and challenging new directions for 21st century performing arts in order to move beyond common misconceptions of what's possible in 'black theater.' The festival's core production is a 10-minute play festival, presenting new work written by featured playwrights. Other festival programming will include a panel discussion and fully staged readings of new plays in development.

Out of these plays, six finalists will be chosen by the Samuel French, Inc. editorial staff to receive publication and licensing contracts.
