BWW Interview: Raleigh Native Beth Leavel Opens Up About Finding Her Life Path, Channeling Her Evil Twin, and Building THE PROM
by Lauren Van Hemert
- Nov 26, 2018
It was the kiss seen around the world when the cast of THE PROM took center stage at The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They performed their finale number, at the end of which the two actresses who play the lesbian couple at the center of the show kissed. It was a first for the parade and a moment that was both celebrated and scorned on social media.
For Raleigh native Beth Leavel, who is starring in THE PROM, that finale moment celebrates what this show is all about.
'If you come away with your heart exploring something you didn't' think was possible, wow,' she says. 'Theater is amazing.'
BWW Review: Brooks Ashmanskas Gives a Classic Musical Comedy Star Turn in Hilarious and Touching THE PROM
by Michael Dale
- Nov 16, 2018
Let's cut to the chase. The Prom is a great musical comedy on the same level as HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM and THE PRODUCERS. Brooks Ashmanskas, the flamboyantly-styled song and dance man with a razor-sharp comic flair who has spent over twenty years on Broadway stealing scenes in supporting roles, is now giving a great musical comedy star performance that should rank up there with the classic turns given by Robert Morse, Zero Mostel and Nathan Lane in those smash hits.

BWW Interview: Jay Paranada is Evil Sidekick Iago in Disney's ALADDIN
by Heidi Scheuermann
- Oct 4, 2018
I remember the first time I saw Disney's Aladdin in the movie theatre as a kid. I was only 4 years old, and I was both mystified, entertained, in love with the music, and terrified. So much wrapped up into one movie! A street rat who at heart is a really good guy, but just a little lost and trying to find his place in the world. A princess who teaches us that all the money and comforts in the world don't necessarily bring you joy and that we should always stand up for ourselves. A Genie who grants wishes and ultimately earns his freedom. An evil sorcerer and his trusted sidekick who want nothing more than to rule the world and destroy anyone in their path. But also, there's amazing music and lots of dancing. How could you NOT love this story?!

BWW Review: Pride Rock Remains Strong in 'Rafiki Tour' of THE LION KING
by Perry Tannenbaum
- Aug 28, 2018
As Disney's megahit reaches its 21st Broadway birthday, we're not asking each other anymore if you've seen THE LION KING. Instead we're apt to ask how many times you've seen this unparalleled spectacle or, more nostalgically, 'Do you remember your first time?'
