Goodspeed Musicals will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the beloved musical Fiddler on the Roof with an inspiring new production, which began previews on June 27th at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn. Fiddler on the Roof for an Official Press Opening tonight, July 16, 2014.

So this Wednesday, the 16th of July, is going to be our official press opening for Fiddler on the Roof. Goodspeed has a wonderful opportunity for actors to run the show for a few weeks as if it were previews and then officially open it at a later date. It really gives the company, at least I feel, the opportunity to really sit into the piece, experience, play, and work on all the little nuances so that it is ready for the critics and audiences alike. For the most part regional theatres don't have this luxury and this is where I really think that Goodspeed excels when it comes to putting on a show. They take the time to truly craft the most exceptional piece of theatre that they can by giving the appropriate amount of time to live with a show before it is ready for the press. With this coming it gave us the opportunity to work some new moments as well as really tighten choreography. Now with Parker gone that duty falls to our dance captain, Curtis Schroeger, to maintain and assess what needs to be looked at before the show has it's press opening. So for the past few days along with our director, Rob, we took the time to really invest in what was happening on our stage, to make it the best possible show we could give. Again it was truly great to be able to take the time to really examine each breath and each beat. The beauty of Fiddler is how truthful it is in its story. It isn't just a piece of fluff. It really has stood the test of time where a lot of musicals have been forgotten by the way side.

Westport Country Playhouse announces that due to ticket demand for its current production of the world premiere musical revue, "Sing for Your Shakespeare," extra performances have been added on Thursday through Today, June 26 - 28, at 8 p.m.

Goodspeed Musicals awarded Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner Sheldon Harnick The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre on June 14, which featured Broadway luminaries and arts sustainers. Check out a look back at the evening below!

The Stars of Comedy Show will be Today, June 13 at 8:00 PM at The Historic North Theatre. All tickets are $15.00 and they can be reserved by calling 434-793-SHOW (7469) or online at www.TheNorthTheatre.com The show will include Mike Easmeil as the headliner and CB Wilkins as the feature performer. Theatre owner/magician Wayne Alan will be the MC and opening act. They will perform in the intimate balcony mini-theatre, which has limited seating. This is fun, clean comedy as seen on network television. The comedy night is a monthly feature at the theatre and is held the 2nd Today of each month.

Who knew Shakespeare could be so VIRAL?

Westport Country Playhouse's world premiere musical revue, 'Sing for Your Shakespeare,' playing now through June 22, features a six-member cast of Broadway talents: Karen Akers, Britney Coleman, Darius de Haas, Stephen DeRosa, Constantine Germanacos, and Laurie Wells. With selections from Cole Porter's 'Kiss Me, Kate,' Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's 'West Side Story,' and Rodgers and Hart's 'The Boys from Syracuse,' as well as numbers by Duke Ellington, Frank Loesser, and others, the production explores how the American Songbook has been inspired for decades by Shakespeare's works.
