MTWorks continues its acclaimed fifth season with the magical world premiere of THE FAMILY SHAKESPEARE, written by award-winning playwright and Artistic Director David Stallings and directed by founding member Antonio Miniño.
A magical, dark, and fictional look into the dangers and consequences of caging innocence, The Family Shakespaere, a play inspired by the true story of the Bowdler family (publishers of the Complete Censored Works of William Shakespeare, and whose family name later replaced 'expurgation' and 'castration of text' with 'bowdlerization') delves into the psyche of a family who thinks has the right to cross out and modify words with the supposed aim to protect youth and purity.

Deborah Wolfson (Drums in the Night, Williamsburg: The Musical, America, A Problem Play) will direct. Monroe, Illinois: Over Here/Townie is written as two separate one-act plays. Both plays are set in fictional, working class town of Monroe, Illinois. Over Here revolves around a widowed matriarch, Patty, and her two children, Nora and Danny, all of whom are coping with the death of their husband/father who was killed in Iraq. Townie tells the story of one Woman through 30 years of her life, from her engagement to her marriage, the birth of her children, infidelity, and divorce. The deterioration of the traditional American family is the tie that binds.

Winner of three 2010 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity Awards, Maieutic Theatre Works (MTWorks) has announced their 2010-2011 Season beginning September 16th, 2010. The season will feature two world premieres, A Home Across The Ocean by Louisiana native and LGBTQ journalist Cody Daigle (Providence, Life/Play), and The Family Shakespeare by Georgia native and MTWorks' Artistic Director, David Stallings (Barrier Island, Anaïs Nin Goes To Hell). Directors Dev Bondarin (Gallery Players, Prospect Theatre Company) and Nicole A. Watson (Urban Stages, 52nd Street Project) are slated to direct.
