The Harold Clurman Playwrights Division, a program of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, has chosen actor/writer Dennis Staroselsky as it's Playwright-in-Residence for 2014. Previous residents include Halley Feiffer, Mia Chung, Anton Dudley, Christina Gorman, Zayd Dohrn, and Peter Nickowitz. Over seventy writers submitted applications and full-length plays for consideration in the merit-based annual search.

The project centers on a family of adult siblings (Cardellini, Kyle Chandler) whose secrets and scars are revealed when their black sheep brother (Ben Mendelsohn) returns home. Spacek will take on the role of the siblings' mother.

The New Group continues its 2013-2014 season with the world premiere of Intimacy, a new play by Thomas Bradshaw. A limited Off-Broadway engagement plays January 14 - March 8 at The New Group @ Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street), with Official Opening Night set for Wednesday, January 29 at 7:00pm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, William Hurt will portray Gregg Allman in the upcoming biopic MIDNIGHT RIDER from Unclaimed Freight Productions' Randall Miller and Jody Savin.

TEN, The Gift Theatre's annual season kickoff celebration of ten 10-minute plays, returns January 9-19, 2014. This year's ten-minute play premieres by The Gift and guests were curated by artistic director Michael Patrick Thornton and associate artistic director Paul D'Addario. The New Group launches its 2013-2014 season with the New York premiere of the Geffen Playhouse production of The Jacksonian, by Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley. Syfy announces additional casting for Season 2 of its highly-rated and groundbreaking drama series, Defiance. William Atherton signs on to portray high-ranking Earth Republic official Viceroy Mercado andAnna Hopkins has inked the role of Earth Republic soldier and documentarian Jessica 'Berlin' Rai. Slated for a June 2014 launch, production is currently underway in Toronto, ON for the 13-episode second season of the ambitious series, which delivered an average of 1.5 million viewers 18-49 and 3.2 million total viewers in its first season, based on Live +7 data.
